CommonApp: only 7 ECs?

<p>As a long time observer of chances and past decisions threads, I've noticed most people have more than 7 ECs. Yet, the commonapp only accomodates 7 slots and I know the resumes are heavily discouraged, so how are people exactly showing colleges this?</p>

<p>Also, when apply to top colleges (i.e., HYPSM), would you recommend giving out more the 7 ECs?</p>

<p>Usually students add a resume in the additional info section of the common app. Though, I know this practice is specifically discouraged at some schools (Stanford comes to mind)</p>
