My teacher, the host of KEY CLUB, said to me "I don't write those things" when I asked him to write me something to confirm my volunteer hours.

He said, "No college will ever come to me for such confirmation, it is all based on honor system."

they ocassionally do spot checks, where they pick a few people out randomly and check eveyrhitgn on their app such as volunteer hours and extra curiculars to see if your’re lying. Chances are you can get away with it if you lie. HOwever, if they ever discovered you lied, you will get kicked out of college and no other college will ever accept you.

UCs do random checks I believe. Generally however, anything you lie about that can make a difference can be checked, and anything that cannot be confirmed isn’t going to make a dent anyway.

He is absolutely right, ESPECIALLY for the UCs. Just think about it: do you really think the UCs have time to confirm everyone’s volunteer hours? No, they don’t. And they really couldn’t care less. ECs are great, but unfortunately most colleges have no way of confirming them, UCs included. It is basically on the honor system.

And get this: UCs don’t require an official transcript until AFTER you’ve been accepted. Grades are also self-reported on the honor system as part of the application. Haha. I wonder how many people have slipped by on that on.

Yeah…CA resident. Very cynical about our so-called “awesome” system.
