for the EC's and community service? I mean, some of my friends are exagerating their hrs by a lot so I mean, do they even check? I heard they checked 10%. Is this true?

idk, just ask ten people who applied to UC last year,

why would u lie...too much to risk and nothing to gain

yeah, i don't think it's good to lie, just because it's unfair to others,
but there is definitely SOME THING TO GAIN.

there is nothign to gain...what do u gain by saying to work on this thing for 5hrs per week while the president only works for it for 3hrs/week...only indicating stupidy...

you could lie and say you were vice president of the school's multicultural club when only you showed up to a meeting once a semester

they definitely DO check....whether its 10% I don't know. I do know a friend last year was asked for verification of several awards and community service, as well as an official AP score report -- he had eye-opening stats -- 4.0 uw/240/2400/3x800/5-5s.

but how do u verify things like community service?
I volunteered all over the place

Some places keep track. My local library made us sign in and out in case we ever needed to tally our hours, and they'll sign for it, too. The organization I tutor with asks us to sign in and out as well.

UC don't check I think. They only reason they would truly check is to verify outrageous amounts of community service...probably around >1000. Otherwise, I don't think UCs will check the kid with about 300 hrs. It's quite normal.

300 that's a lot too if u're commited to other activities at school, like track which is very time consuming

Eh, a lot of people do 300. And besides, UC's ask for estimation, not exact numbers.

They do check. I heard of one guy who had to take a trunkload of his trophies down to a college because they wanted to verify
but I don't think it's as high as 10%? none of my friends have told me that they've been asked to verify their ECs... though I never asked anyone o.0
I didn't exaggerate because I didn't think I could even prove what I truthfully did

I didn't exaggerate since I have no records. But my GPA and SAT scores should be enough for the UC system anyway I guess.
