Inspired by the baby naming thread and the pet pics thread, I wondered if we can find any naming trends in our pets. (If any of your pets appear in your passwords, best to avoid this thread😀)
My mom had a 70’s craze for calling our cats Greek names: Heptadachtyla (a seven toed cat— his name morphed into Boopa) and Pandora. But we also had a classic name for our standard poodle, Buddy.
Are there still a lot of dogs and cats (or other critters) called Prince, Duke, Molly, and Tiger?
What about classics like Mittens, Patches, Fido, Spot, or Felix?

My kitty is Milo, and actually I’ve hear that for a bunch of baby boys lately…and not pets.

Both my grandpups are rescues.
One is called Vie, for c’est la vie.
The other was a fraternal twin - they were GirlDog and BoyDog. Sadly BoyDog died and GirlDog was adopted by my kid. We call her Gigi.
I don’t think either are trendy.

Yep, we named our puppy Duke.
My husband wanted a big dog and I wanted a small dog. He finally agreed that
I could choose the dog but he was going to pick the name. And since he couldn’t have a big old bloodhound like on the Beverly Hillbillies, he was naming our little bitty fluffball Duke.

Dog names in my family (mini-labradoodle, a golden doodle, berniedoodle, and black labradoodle): Rosie, Josie, Lily, and Sasha. My youngest granddaughter (2.5 yrs) has shortened their names and calls them: Ro, Jo, Lo, and Sa.

Our cats are Storm and Swirl, and I’ve never heard of other cats with those names. (Stormy yes, but not Storm).
We got Storm right at the start of back to back winter storms in 2009.
Swirl was part of an ice cream names littler. The breeder named her Chocolate Swirl. She’s a marble Bengal, and has a big swirl on each side, so it fits and we kept that part of her name. BUT, I sometimes wish we would have named her Tornado, and called her Tory.

We currently have 5 (!) cats in the house. Their names are not on the list… but their fur is all over the house!
I keep telling my husband our next batch of cats will be spayed female sphinxes. Lots of cat, not much fur! I will name them Sia and Issa. But I’d course I’ll fall for a shelter cat or two.
ETA: my sister at one point had 2 sphinx cats. Appropriately named Goblin and Gollum.

As a kid I had Fluffy and Prissy. Then we favored people’s names like Orson and Herbert. My latest? Lil Kit.

Our older dog is Jazz, just because we liked the sound of the name. A Facebook friend suggested Louie for our younger one, after Louie Armstrong. We went with it!

Our dog has a regular old human name which fits him well- we have a few friends who share his name.
Still love the dog named Paul Anka in Gilmore Girls.
