Are your pets’ names on trend?

Ha! Our previous two male cats were both names “Gizmo” (#35).

I wonder why it’s trending now? I was thinking of “Gremlins”, and the fact that the first Gizmo moved like a little mechanical toy when I found him on the street.

Our present cat is “Shelly”. My kid is extremely original and inventive, EXCEPT when it comes to naming her pets. Our cat is “Shelly” because she’s a torty (a dilute tortoiseshell, to be precise).

When I was a kid, I had a pair of red-eared sliders (they grew too big and we donated them to the zoo). We named them “Terry” for the girl and “Pinni” (Hebrew short for Pinchas) for the boy. Because they are terrapins…

When my wife and I got a pair of gerbils, of course I named them Jerry and Billy (both males).

When we got gerbils for our kid she named the colorpoint (AKA Burmese) “Stormy”, and the black one “Midnight” because of their colors (you can start seeing a pattern here).

You might not win the prize for originality @MWolf

My mom definitely had weird names for our animals. We had a cat called Shylock Hums, because it purred all the time. We had another called Mr. Bojangles. That song was popular then.

We had a pair of love birds. Mom named them BI and RD. Really.

In the 70’s we also had cat called Persephone. My mom was definitely hippy dippy with the Greek names.

Our cat has a rather goofy name that reminds me of the Seven Dwarfs. (Might be in a password, so I’ll be vague.) DH took him to the vet when we first got him and had to say a name, even though we hadn’t yet agreed on one. I just call him Choo-choo.
