Area and People

Hey guys… I was just wondering what everyone thinks of the area Bryn Mawr is in. I haven’t had a chance to fly up and see it yet, hopefully in march!, and I was wondering the good and the bad; is there much to do, is it really rural/country, what the people like? Is it really a place you could be happy or is it one of those, strange fits that only random people find they like? anyway. thanx!

Bryn Mawr is in a suburb of Philadelphia. It's sort of a wealthy town with little shops. Very pretty. Philadelphia is a short train ride away - and it's a large city with all that has to offer.

I live not far from Bryn Mawr and agree with Topcat. Bryn Mawr is in an upscale suburb of Philly with train access to center city Philadelphia. Bryn Mawr Hospital (no relation to the college other than place name) is a major local medical center. The college campus is lovely as is the area. I would certainly not call it rural. The town of Bryn Mawr has a movie theater, bookstores, lots of diverse restaurants, etc. in a vibrant walking neighborhood.

If you're thinking of flying "up" I imagine you're from the south. We get all four seasons here but have a longer fall and earlier spring than New England. We get several decent snows each winter.

haha... not really south. try, west. :P west coast. cali to be exact... so its sorta "over", but i say up because... i don't really know why. its one of those euphimism things that people sorta... well anyway. u get the point. I'm glad to hear its in a nice area. I'm really excited about it being a possible school for me. awesome vibe from the reps at a meeting late last year. :) thanx u guys! MORE COMMENTS WELCOME !!

If you are from California, the word "suburb" is going to be misleading as a description of Bryn Mawr. It was a suburb at one time (a hundred years ago). But, it is really more of a close-in old neighborhood. The houses are old, large, stately, and $$$$. No subdivision tract housing anywhere near Bryn Mawr.

It's kind of like saying that all the neighborhoods off of Sunset are "suburbs" of Los Angeles. Yeah, at one time. But, now they are old "in-town" neighborhoods of Los Angeles.
