Area rugs

What is the best size rug to buy to bring to Hagerstown Hall? It doesn't need to cover entire room, but would like it cover most. I can't find the room dimensions online.

Last year, they had a company that you could buy rugs from (didn’t use because I had already purchased a 6x9 rug by the time this was sent out)…not sure if this is current or not because the dates are off but you can contact them to find out if they are still offering this service (they bring to campus so you don’t have to deal with transport)…no clue about quality, but hey, it’s a dorm…

Thanks maryversity, I’ll check it out. Was the 6x9 a good size for the room?

Thank you!

When our son was a freshman he bought the rug from on campus. We didn’t have room to bring a large rug with his other things so it was just easier. I would recommend not going too big though as they had a rug that covered most of their room (not all of it), but it kept bunching up. Also, for what it’s worth, by the end of the year, it was just easier to pitch the rug than bring it home so I wouldn’t worry about getting a “rugged” rug:)

Also, check out remnants at places like Lowe’s, Home Depot, etc. The price is generally great for a small piece. Def recommend a rug, though…makes it much nicer area to live in, and covers up ugly floor. Plan to toss at the end of the year, since it’s likely that it will never get vacuumed!

The rugs they sell on campus are good especially if you/your child intend on sitting on the floor a lot or if you rearrange the furniture so that there’s an larger open space in the room. However, they are really hard to keep clean and most everyone tosses (UMD has a recycling program the last couple weeks for rugs) them at the end of the year. My one friend dropped a glittery dress from a dance competition on her carpet and the glitter never came out. A spilled drink wouldn’t come out either. Plus the colors aren’t very appealing, if that matters to you at all.

I bought two of these from Walmart: [Mainstays Chevron Fur Rug: Decor : Walmart.com](http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Chevron-Fur-Rug/25125807) one next to my bed and for my roommate’s bed. I kept a bath mat sized rug next to my bed last year so that I wouldn’t have to step out onto tile when I first woke up, which was much easier to keep clean than a huge rug.

I called the Resident Life office, I believe they may have transferred me to my daughter’s dorm. They gave me the dimensions of the room and closet. They were very helpful!!

They didn’t tell you that you had to move every stitch of furniture in a crowded triple to get the rug down!
