Area surrounding Syracuse???

I'm not a party person AT ALL. ( I like smaller, quieter hanging out; I will survive right?)

I don't need much in the surrounding area. A movie theater, a large store to get supplies such as water, some restaurants, and hang out spots...

^ Since I realize that my preferences are vague, I'll just ask you guys to just give me an idea of the surrounding area since I've heard it sucks. I'm not expecting a college town, but I'm not expecting cows either. (Too many anyway...)

And how is transportation? Does the school have a system worked out with the bus system?

ahh. try the parties. but, theres a huge mall with movies. and bus service right through campus. i had problems freshman year getting to a store like walmart though. theres no bus service and a taxi is way too expensive

Sorry this is kind of long… but I’m going to be a soph in the fall and I’m DEF not a party person either so I totally understand. In all honesty you’ll find people that aren’t party people either and you can have movie nights in each others dorms and such or go to Kimmel (dining hall that’s the late night fast food hang out), there’s also a movie theater at the Carousel mall which is a short bus ride away and the bus is free for students on the weekends, there’s also the stores in the mall which are helpful.
As for a walmart or sams club type, you’d need a car for that but there’s a CVS basically on campus.
For other hang out spots, the syracuse zoo is great, downtown syracuse has some good stores and places to eat and things that are fun (you’ll see some of them the first week if you attend the first week events), also the university shows movies most weekends, usually movies that are out of theaters but not on DVD yet or have just come out on dvd, there’s also an ice skating rink on campus which is nice, and there are often events happening on campus like lecture series and concerts and things, and I highly recommend Acapella After Hours, a senior introduced me to it this year and the acapella groups on campus are amazing and sing things that are more popular music than “typical” acapella music.
The bus system is a little slow with the snow sometimes but pretty good. And because there is so much to do on campus is not a big deal.

Might see you in the fall but for now I hope this helped!

The easiest Wal Mart to get to from SU might be the one at Camillus Commons – Centro’s route 36 bus goes there and many of the runs pass through the SU campus on weekdays (at other times, you can get a transfer downtown to the bus to the University).
