We are also much lazier than most other countries.

ScAR quite being so racist and whinny!! If America is so stupid why are you staying here to study in an American university? And I don't see why everyone is mentioning how "smart" India is. Everything on the news indicates that they are so superstitious that they won't even take medical care. I remember seeing one special that showed an Indian family that would not allow their children to take a polio vacine. The nation needs to overcome its superstitions before it can truly move into the twenty-first century. And as for China they have tens of millions of poor that barely survive as farmers! At least in America we allow immigrants to study with everyone else in the schools. This ensures that they have a chance to move up in the social order (aren't you an immigrant ScAR??). In Germany if you don't speak the language you will get stuck in a special school where you are pretty much doomed to a career in hard labor (according to one of my German exchange student friends). So basically to all the people that are talking about the stupidity of Americans (ScAR) do you think that we should close immigration and kick all of the special needs kids out of school?? Because if that is what you think you are racist and close-minded. Two traits which are not very "intelligent"!!!

America's best HS students are among the best in the world:

All 4 American competitors took gold medals at the most recent International Computing ("Informatics") Olympiad.

At the most recent Math Olympiad, the six US competitors won four golds and two silver medals. The US team finished second in the world.

Did great in physics, too:

No Child Left Behind!

ehem......so why the hell do you want to study in their Universities?
Cauz those universities filter out those dumb Americans. I didn't say ALL Americans are dumb. Some are very, very smart. John Nash, for example was one of those exeptions. It's like the smart ones suckk the brains out of the dumb ones or something. I don't think that the kids are to blame. It's the system. My school emphasized English and History by making us take four years of it, while in Asian countries, they emphasize Science and Math. That seems more appropriate. English was invented by man. History happened because of man. Science and Math were always ther, are here now, and will always be here, and they govern this earth and the Universe, and could prove wether or not god exits, what our purpose is, etc. What the hell is English going to do other than help you talk properly. History is important, I admit, but not nearly as much as Science and math.

Also I forgot to mention that Asian countries, being very poor, excel, because they have hopes and dreams that one day, they'll get to go to America an live the life that they see on TV. America on the other hand, has so many conviniences and such, that we have absolutly no motivation to get anywhere, because we already have everything. This will be what happens in the future (probably about 50 years from now) when China and India become superpowers (although China is one already) and America has less of an impact. Then, we will strive to excel, while they'll become lazy, and this makes a never-ending cycle.

What'd you live under a rock? What news do you watch? Go to a hospital and count how many of those doctors are Indian. I'll bet you a $100 that atleast half of them in most hospitals are Indian. And I wasn't being racist, which I explained in the above posts.

The term "American" describes all citizens regardless of their ethnic background...

Um guys, I think the OP was trying to prove a point/be sarcastic and ironic when writing the thread. I think he was 1 trying to be funny and 2 Who cares??? Is your english teacher gonna come in here and scream at you for having bad grammar? As long as he gets his point across then it doesn't matter. People whose pet peeve is people with bad grammar is my pet peeve.

That's a very bad comparison....you're comparing the cream of the crop to the "stupidest" people...i would venture to say the "stupidest" kids here are smarter than "the stupidest" kids in another country b/c some education is better than none...

BTW American is American regardless of ethnic background as dusk said.

"Science and Math were always ther, are here now, and will always be here, and they govern this earth and the Universe, and could prove wether or not god exits, what our purpose is, etc."

Actually, man invented the rules to math as well. You can define math in multiple ways. Also, to say that math and science are going to prove "what our purpose is" is such a stretch that I can't even think of words right now.

learn your grammar first
In order to pick on another's grammar, one must be sure to be using correct grammar himself. Grammar does not belong to anyone (and if it could, I wouldn't say that the OP possesses it). Do not say "your grammar;" it makes no sense. Also, it makes no sense to tell someone to learn something which they abstractly possess, as this means that they must already know it. Therefore, you should have said "Learn to apply correct grammar before posting."

I'm just making a point as to how absurd your comment was: you understood what the OP meant; that's what matters. The fact that you may have disliked his message is another matter altogether. Do not pick on his/her use of grammar when you lack the skills yourself.

Hey whatever happened to facts, guys?

average IQ's (or intelligence)

China: 100
U.S - 98
India - 81

Consider U.S and China basically tied in intelligence since there is always a margin of error in statistics.

Future intelligence predictions:
China 1st, U.S - 2nd, India 3rd

Future knowledge (research, technology) predictions:
U.S -1st, India and China - 2nd and 3rd (dunno which ones gonna be better)

i consider knowledge and intelligence the two seperate entities which determine how smart a country is. I havent taken sociology or psych or anything so i dont know how else to put it.
Intelligence wise, China may already have an edge over us. But intelligence is seperate from knowledge. We, of course, have superior research institutions and technology, and our professors and intellectuals should still be the best. And so we have the superior knowledge aspect. Also back to the intelligence aspect the U.S has a diverse spectrum of intelligence. Our top 10 percent are probably the most intelligent in the world, while our lowest 10 percent are substantially low.
You have to consider the fact that for reasons that include lack of education, unhealthy food, and discouragement (and NOT GENETICS) they include African Americans in the ghetto, labor-seeking hispanics, and excuse my french, rednecks (dont know any other way to put them since not all country people are lower IQ), etc.
BTW i am brown and lean towards liberal so i meant no racism whatsoever its just the reality of it.

As for the future, which is what the entire topic is driven towards but what people in this thread have detracted from, i think U.S may get left in the dust by China intelligence wise. I think the U.S will continue to have the edge in its knowledge or research and technology in the objective sense at least for a while. In India because of very bad impoverishment and conditions, and because they also have a huuuuge difference in intelligence between the rich and poor (the caste system although dormant still survives through this reality today), doesnt seem to me like someplace that will actually surpass the United States in being smarter. Also India may be getting smarter exponentially now because their situation to learn is more for desperation to get through college and get a job and they lack the sort of romanticism that the western world has had for hundreds of years for the desire to learn not necessarily economic gain. I should know since im from Pakistan which is a neighbor country of India and we have the same situation.

Hey ScAR I'm sorry to say but you were being racist. If I had an Asian friend and made fun of them for being stupid that woud be considered racist. Same thing goes the other way. Actually I haven't been "living under a rock" (a very cliche and dull analogy if I don't say so myself). In fact I never said anything about India not producing the most doctors. All I said was that their poor are very superstitious and unable to let go of outdated beliefs. I KNOW that India produces a huge amount of doctors and scientists. But my statement about the superstitious poor and the outdated nature of their beliefs still stands.

^ You are extremely immature. In your ideas as well as in your expression.

Most Americans don't have the same motivation that people in India and China have. I'd probably agree that America is getting stupider.
Mmkay, so let's get this straight--lack of motivation is directly correlated to idiocy?

...I beg to differ. There are many, many intelligent people who lack motivation. Students in China, I know for a fact [I know less about India, so I can't speak for them], work hard because they have to. If you don't ace the test to get into high school, you might not go on, or you might be placed into a bad school. This directly affects your scores for the test into college. China is already in a situation in which most people can't get jobs, and are forced to 'retire' at the age of 40. Competition for the few jobs they have is fierce, and as a result, there is more motivation.

well considering the president of our country, i can see why people think we're stupid haha

makemehappy is 100% correct, lazy and stupid are two totally different things, Americans or I guess as some of you are classifying them, "Whites" are no more stupid than Asians or whoever you feel like comparing them to. This thread is pretty much based on 100% speculation anyway, since there are no real stats to back them up except IQ tests which dont even apply to a good amount of the world b/c they are illiterate.

pilebay. I don't think ScAR was intending to be racist. I'm an international student too. In Beijing, China, and I see things growing fast, whereas when I used to live in America, people had things handed to them. It's just how it is. Of course, not ALL cases are like this, but most. I think you're the one being racist by mentioning all the Germans, Indians, Asians, etc.. ...
