Are asians just naturally smart or do they work really hard or a combination of both?

I'm not sure how to respond to that question.

There is no scientific evidence that one race is more intelligent than another. Undoubtedly, the success that many Asians achieve is due to hard work and effort. Culturally, there is often (not always) more of an emphasis put on education.

This should explain everything.
I feel that I was raised like an Asain.

Wov! That's a very cool statement. Although, in my opinion of a little teenager not really true. Happiness depends on your personal reflection of the world not on the world itself.

Aside, I'm agreeing with the article. Parents and parents' image is what's making children. American life-style is not doing any good and "sofa style" is deadly for education.

This is another ridiculous thread.....

Wikipedia article on the subject:

haha I'm asian and I know I've had to work hard to become successful. I don't believe anyone is 'naturally smart' though. Sometimes asians have a tendency to make themselves APPEAR very smart, when deep down their just like everyone else. ( I know ppl like this personally)

I believe people are naturally smart....

Some people just learn quicker than others also. When a 4 year old can multiply 3-digit number by himself and discovers the concept of negative numbers by himself...that's a big deal

That was Paul Erdos, btw^^^^^^ Erdos wasn't Asian though...heh...He was Hungarian?..i think

I don't think people can just go by on natural smarts, though. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.

Well, I know a lotta asians that are smart. Some, like myself =) (lol kidding) are naturally smart and don't have to work at it. By that I mean we learn quickly, adapt, get good grades no problem. Others have to work hard and a lot to achieve the same end. And some just aren't smart, either because they werent born with it, or they don't try.

Asian culture and hard work

Also Asian languages are harder to learn with much more memorization.

I think Asians are probably one of the most hard working races there is especially when it comes to education, but then again you don't see many Asian Michael Jordans either.

Tarun45: like you yourself said, you don't see many Asian Michael Jordans because there is SO MUCH MORE emphasis put on academics and education.

Get a good education, get a good paying job, live the American dream, and pressure your own kids to follow your footsteps, yadda yadda. ;-)

Blacks, on the other hand...You see a lot of fine black athletes, with not so great an emphasis on education for the black race.

Not trying to offend anyone or start up racist wars, but that's just the way it's always been.

Again, you don't see a lot of Asian Einsteins.. Caucasians are different too.

I think asians have smarter brain cells than other races... Take that and the fact they work extremely hard, you get the fact that 20% of ivy league students are asians and asians become professionals (doctors, lawyers, businessmen) more than any other race and make the most money!

I smell a troll.

well its true! Asians are smarter!

I'm Indian, so I count in the eyes of colleges. I think its just work ethic established by some asian parents. My dad got a good job in this country because he worked hard to get a good education. He knows the potential and benefits from hard work and knows that that is the surest way to ensure my success. I guess natural intelligence plays a factor but, between races, I think different standards are more important.

I think it's because our parent secretly kill off all the ones who aren't smart, so the majority of Asians left are geniuses...

Just kidding.

But to be honest, the only reason I do as well as I do is because my parents pressure me to.

I don't believe Asians are, as a culture, naturally smarter than any other. The fact that they have higher test scores and whatnot can be explained with the "Asian work ethic." Their cultures emphasize working hard to the point that many commit suicide (over in China, Japan) if they don't make it to college and feel themselves to be a drain on their society. I'm not saying it's that intense in America as well, however students who grow up in households that greatly emphasize academic achievement can be naturally expected to perform better than students who don't.
