Arguing Grades

Hi all, so today I asked my AP Macro teacher where my end of the year grade was sitting (trying to figure out if an extra credit assignment would be worth it). He told me I would get an A- (A- one quarter, A next quarter, A- final exam), I asked if anything would change it he said no. Since this is not one of my more reliable teachers when I got home today I decided to do the math myself to see if it was worth it. I went back to one of my 3rd quarter grade reports and the last one I received I was sitting at a 90%, but with about 5 missing assignments (I was absent a lot due to medical reasons), wanting to figure out my grade I decided to just figure it out myself since I had the missing assignments with me (no weighting on assignments just total points earned out of total points possible), when I did the math I figured I should have received a 92.6% which did not include the corrections I did for 3 tests. The 92.6 alone should have rounded up to an A, if the corrections did not push it up to a 93, yet somehow I ended up with an A-. The gradebook he uses is online so it should all be automated so I don't understand how this mistake could of happened. Is it worth it to talk to him about, or should I just let it go?

FYI: AP Macro is a semester class at my school so my first quarter for Macro was technically the 3rd quarter of school

Did he say a 92.6 = a 93? Most teachers I’ve met don’t round that much… maybe if it was a 92.9 e MIGHT have converted it to a 93.

I would definitely talk to him if you believe that their was a mistake either with the way he inputted grades, or the system itself. If you’re right, then you deserve the A. Either way, it’s worth finding out about.

Did you give her the missing assignments and corrections? You mentioned you still had them with you, does she know about them at all?

Thanks, I think I am going to talk to him. I did give him the missing assignments and he has returned them to me graded. And at my school if its a 92.5/89.5/82.5 etc the teachers round up to the next letter grade.

Is it because of those five missing assignments?

Thanks for all of your help. I did end up talking to my teacher, and as it turned out it was just some computer glitch. All the corrections and missing assignments were inputed correctly, but for some reason the grade book program wasn’t adding up correctly of something. He got it all sorted out and I now have an A!
