Arml

Does MIT take being on state ARML team in any significance? (if I am not majoring in math?!?)

On that note, curious, how does it compare with siemens semifinalist or all-state journalism? (different areas, so...how?)

ahh can't wait for app period to be over. till then, so long senioritis. :P

Uh, for most states, there are multiple teams. Being on the best team probably helps. Otherwise, it's probably not a big deal.

my state picks the ARML members by state-wide math competition (14,000+ kids take it, they make two teams so 30 kids?).

would MIT necessarily know that though?

Probably not, because how the teams are formed is at the discretion of the ARML coaches for each state. If you can score top 30 in your state, then you should have other state math contests to show your abilities.

and there are always AMC AIME USAMO. They are the same across the whole country

I'm not quite sure because each state does it differently. In a statewide comp. I finished like 62nd or something and I was still invited, although in the end there were only like 30 ppl that year on 2 teams I think. I think my state invites a lot of ppl becasue they assume that some won't reply 62nd in the state isn't really anything to be too proud of so in my case ARML probably isnt too prestigious. On the other hand, if ur state only takes the top 30 (and they know all 30 will accept inviitaiont for w/e reason) then being on the ARML team is good, especially if your on the best one. But as was said before, if your state does this and you got on the team, you should have an associated award to go with the contest that selection was based on, so make sure u put that down. If this is the case, I'd still list ARML unless there's another EC that you would rather list.

On the other hand, how does being on the Lehigh Valley Fire team weigh in? Captain? Hmm. Just curious, seeing as how my apps. are in anyway.

Does scoring a 7 out of 8 help? (in 2006)

Definitely put the 7 down. I wasn't there in '06, but in '07 no one got an 8, so that means you would have been in like the top 50 in the nation at least (probalby better than this, I just don't remember how many got 7s).
