I'm sorry that this thread has little to do with USMA, but I heard that the Army is phasing out the green formal uniforms and making blue (NAVY blue of all colors) the new standard class A uniform. Can someone confirm or refute this? If it is true, what are the opinions of cadets and soldiers?

Confirm.

The army already has a uniform called Service Dress Blues which is used for occasions like weddings, etc.

They are making a few changes to this uniform and it will be used as the primary (only) dress uniform besides mess dress.

It will be called the Army Service Uniform

yes, because an Army at war has very important things to occupy itself with like change every single uniform in its inventory since 2000...

I'll stop myself before I go on this tirade.

The song on the BUGLE NOTES sings about the Army Blue. How old is that song?

Very old. According to my trusty New Cadet Handbook, the song is associated with the class of 1865.

Take a look at the Civil War uniforms of the Union army officers--then pretend you can see in color---they wore blue tunics.

The first time I saw the Army dress blues....I thought "that is a Union Army uniform!" (My great grandfather fought on the other side when he was 17... I do sincerely apologize for my divisive thought...:) )

There is a painting of Robert E. Lee hanging in the Supe's residence which represents him as he looked when he was the USMA Superintendent (1852-1855). He is in the U.S. Military dress uniform of the time - the blues - in this painting.

Scroll down towards the end of this link to see a picture of the painting: http://www.widevariety.com/scrapbook.htm

The Army dress blues are very handsome...and historic.
