Hey guys. I want to major in Mechanical Engineering, but I was also thinking about joining the National Guard. Will it be hard to do both? Also, I was wondering, would I have to be delayed for a semester/school year due to Basic Training and AIT?
@grimmjow No, it’s not difficult to balance the two, especially if you drill close to school and home. Being a member of the Guard will also allow you to tap into federal and state education benefits like the STAP. Would you be delayed? Well, that depends on your ship date and MOS. Your best bet is to talk to your recruiter and the unit you plan on joining. If you’ve already applied and been accepted to MSU (or any other college for that matter), then yes, you might have to defer your admission to a later semester. Your academic counselor should be more than understanding if you have a military obligation. I take it you graduate this year? What MOS and unit do you plan on joining?
