Yet more great ranting by USNA69. Where else could we find this GREAT wisdom.... :/

Now now hornet, Navy's a pretty solid team this year! It only took them three overtimes to beat a 1-8 team... ;)

Who didn't beat them for the first time in 44 years. :P

(...the longest such streak in the nation.)

It is a long-standing rivalry full of many traditions, one of which................. oh, heck, how can one explain a rivalry which has been around twice as long as the very existance of the school which your audience attends?

In 50 years of watching college football, this weekend will be the first time that I will not be cheering for the SA team.

My gosh USNA69- why would even bother to post that except to stir up the pot ? Do you really think that reflects well upon you or USNA to reflect such a nasty temperament ? Are you going out for the "Grumpy Old Men Award " ?
I can see your disappointed in the current USAFA, but sadly your response is also a disappointment, as with age should come some wisdom and filter regarding the profit of the reply.

klassmom, After the above belittling of our victory this past weekend, how could I have any other choice?

If you find these so "belittling" of statements, please don't tell me you were so thin-skinned in your service days. Must come with age and cynicism.

All this shows is that the only way you feel you can justify yourself is to actually take a shot at my and my fellow air force cadet's fine institution. That's very mature.
In 50 years of watching college football, this weekend will be the first time that I will not be cheering for the SA team.
Wow, what bitterness. If all it takes to turn you against an institution is the jovial teasing of young college boys, then I'd be terrified to have you as a leader in my military. I would hope more maturity would come of someone with fleet experience and more time in this world. Disappointing.

I also must apologize to shogun for letting this thread digress from its playful purpose of laughing at the "battle" between the exchangers and the USAFA 4 digs. I did like the payback with the large banner on Sijan! :)

USNA69- Because your older and wiser and we get to set the examples, not
play at the same level- take care

Guys, if you go back to my post #17 on this thread, it was a backhanded support of you guys against Army. The best a Navy guy can do against Army. You chose not to accept, it. I therefore choose to withdraw it. Any further speculation about thin skinnededness, my grumpeydness, my disappointment in the current AFA, etc etc are purely speculative and totally incorrect. However, nothing will make me happier than to come on this forum next Sunday morning and help you guys eat a little crow. And yes, I have set myself up for the slim possiblility that you may beat them. Don't be so thin skinned and resort to personal attacks over nothing but a ball game. May the best team win.

Maybe it is time the young whippersnappers learned a little about the traditions of interservice rivalries.

We don't know each other, so this can not be personal, but in my humble
opinion, as another old brat, you made it personal when you said
in 50 years of watching football, this was the first time of not cheering
for a SA, ( not an exact quote, as I'm making dinner ). Regardless,
my husband and I were cheering for Navy and will continue to do so unless
it is against USAFA, as these are the BEST kids - PERIOD !!!!
nothing personal, since I don't even know you, just calling it as it appears

Everybody in Falcon Stadium cheered when they announced that USNA beat ND. Still, a little good-natured ribbing from some "young whippersnappers" is to be expected, yes?

As far as our knowledge of the history and "traditions of interservice rivalries," here's what I do know. The following quote is from one of the finest grads USAFA has ever produced, Col. Hector Negroni, Class of 1961, in which he discusses the first AF-Navy game, back in 1960:

"The game was a dismal experience for Air Force. We got our asses whipped 35-3. Heisman Trophy Winner Joe Bellino led Navy and the Navy team went on to a 9-2 record including playing in the Orange Bowl against Missouri. Air Force ended the season with a 4-6 record.

However, I shall never forget the haughty attitude of the Navy team after the game when Joe Bellino refused to shake the outstretched hand of Air Force quarterback Richie Mayo. Bellino’s remarks were equally inappropriate when he yelled “why don’t you guys go back where you came from.” I do not recall the Navy team accepting the Air Force congratulations. I have many friends who are graduates of the Naval Academy. I realize that this may have been an isolated incident but the haunting memory of that incident has tainted my view of Air Force-Navy games and I relish when the Falcon eats Goat meat."

In sum, rivalry is a two-way street. Can we drop this now please?

dropped- .........( not enough characters )

USNA69, of course you would root for us over Army. We just guarenteed that you keep the trophy. It would have been stupid for you to want Army to win.

Sorry PETKO, but i had to address that. but agreeing with you, i love how this college forum where future academy hopefuls come to ask questions can be degreaded by bickering and hatred between cadets and adults, both who at times act childish. i've actaully stoped coming here for a while because of the childishness and pointlessness (i don't care if that's not a word) of some of these topics. let striving people ask questions, and let the cadets and parents who know the answer post replies. if its not productive, cadet or ex-military or parent, don't say it. lets just help people with their questions about the academy. period

on that note, army week is over, and the festivities Friday night were great fun. if anyone has further questions about it, please ask. if not, this thread is dead

So how 'bout them Montana Grizzlies??
sorry, just thought it might lighten the mood around here. :) anyways I am an avid USAFA fan but I also was very happy when Navy beat ND. Our School Councilor went to ND and there are banners all over the school saying that consist of " 44-46" so we are happy that you beat ND. But the Falcons are still amazing and there is nothing you can say or do to change that.
Now on another note, I at least am interested in the festivities of Friday night, eagle36.

07PETKO, I am almost positive that Mr. Bellino's actions were not performed in a void. Probably something provoked him. It brings to mind AF's boorish behavior in the waning moments of this year's AF/Navy game. Is it just possible that AF has a long history of poor sportsmanship?

eagle36, you are absolutely correct. On another thread, I thanked AF for winning for this very reason. Subsequent to this, though, some of your members began making light of our victory over ND.

As Air Force officers, if you haven't commenced already, you will be playing a lot of golf. May I pass on an old adage which, on the golf course, I live by. Never make fun of your opponent's tee shot until after you have hit your own. Making light of the difficulty of our victory over ND the week prior to your playing them seems a little cocky to me. Rest asssured, I will be the first to remind you of your remarks should ND come through next week and beat you. And yes, of course, I am setting myself up for some serious crow eating. As a fellow SA grad, I am sure the remainder of the week will be consumed with the thoughts of had I rather "crow" or "eat crow". At this point, may the best team win.
