Arrested, rescinding?

Minor just been arrested and charged for a felony, but have already paid deposits and chosen a schedule for Fall 2010. Did not give PD SS number because it wasn't memorized. Can the courts contact NYU or can NYU find out some way? Will they rescind?

I would not contact the school and tell them… The only thing that I would be concerned is if there are Fed loans involved. FAFSA asks the question of charges or convictions and this may interfere with Fed loans in future.
Is there jail time involved right now? Will a trial interefere with classes? These are all things that need to be taken into consideration.
I’m hoping for the OP sake that this person will be proven innocent.
Good luck with this one.

No federal loans involved. Jail time is a possibility, the trial date is Sept 10th, which is 3 days into classes. Am pleading guilty because already confessed to wrongdoing.

I don’t know where you live, but here, if you are out on bond pending trial, you can’t leave the jurisdiction of the court (county). That would make it hard to go away to school. If probation is a possibility, the court may authorize a move and do the probation at the new location, but not always. I would have the attorney talk to the ADA assigned to the case and work out those arrangements (plea bargain) so you know what you are looking at before September. It makes no sense to me to go through with enrollment at NYU and lose any refunds if jail time is going to happen or if the court is not going to allow probation. What NYU does is another story. My guess is this year it would not catch up with you, but next year it might. PS I do speak from experience on the whole probation thing - five years with a son who could not leave the county…
