Arriving at a reasonable list of schools

Thanks. I think he agrees about Chicago now. The core seems smaller than I recall, somewhere I read it was cut back a few years ago, but there are still more required places than most other schools.

I like your 0% comment....

I have been enjoying reading the various updates on how all of our kids have been doing. To update this thread:

My son applied to:

Vassar (EDI), Bard (EA), Hampshire, Bates, Franklin and Marshall, American University, Oberlin, and Connecticut College.

His SAT's picked up on the second try to 940 Reading, 620 Math (should have studied some...), and 710 Writing (9 on the essay).

So far he has been accepted at Bard and deferred at Vassar. Both seem reasonable decisions given his stats. He rates Bard very highly but is still going to wait to see how he does elsewhere.

Very glad to hear that things are working out! My son was accepted to Chicago EA, but he is also waiting on the RD round to make a final decision.

I think the reading score (940) may have a typo in there somewhere!

I thought I would report what the final tally turned out to be.

My son's GPA went up slightly and his SAT's by 50 points since the first post (yes, that January post should have read 740 Reading, 720 math, and 710 Writing - 9 on the Essay). He was just outside the Top 20% after 6 semesters and just inside after 7.

Accepted

Bates
Bard (Early Action)
Connecticut College
American University
Hampshire (Early Action)
Franklin and Marshall

Rejected

Vassar (ED Deferred and then rejected)
Oberlin

Right now it looks to be between Bates, Bard, and Conn College. We have not yet visited American University so it is possible he will fall in love with DC.

He is now "stressing out" over making up his mind. I think this is suitable revenge for having me "stress out" over the school selection, tours, and applications<g>......</g>

My relief at this being over is temporary though as I start Round II with my daughter who is a Junior....three visits so far with more to come.

Good luck to you all...

Good job, ctParent and S! A very good list to choose from - for the young man he is now!
