Arriving late for an interview

On the day of my campus interview, I actually arrived early but by mistake waited for my interviewer in the lobby rather than in the admissions office as instructed. When I finally realized my error, I was 30 min late! I apologized & explained the situation. The interview seemed to go well & lasted for almost an hour. I agian apologized in my thank you note. Am I doomed????

i wouldn't say that you are DOOMED.

the way you explained it to me makes it seem like an understandable mistake.

it's not like you were doing drugs and lost track of time, you were simply waiting in the lobby.

Thanks, that makes me feel better

No biggie. I suggest don't make a big deal out of it. The more you mess with it, the more it looks like you are lying. Interviewers see such things happen all the time and as long as you were willing and positive in the interview, I don't think he/she will even remember it, let alone holding a grudge against it. In fact, the person may have forgotten about it until you mentioned it again! :)

Good luck with your college!

or, during the voting, he tells the committee, "yeah i remember this fine lad/lady. cute fella. waited for me in the lobby instead of the office." and give you a vote outr of fond remembrance! :D

Just don't make a habit of being late for interviews or anything else, even if the interviewer gets behind schedule. No one really likes to hear excuses why a candidate is late.
