Arrogance on essays

So my hook is basically "I'm good at math" and I do distance learning courses and such. I've been told that the essay is one of the few times you really get to pat yourself on the back and try and show off for the colleges. But my essay is roughly me talking about how great I am for 500 words. Is it possible to be TOO self-aggrandizing on these essays?

yes.......

shyea. don't sound like you're bragging. if you need help figuring that out, ask your friends if you sound like a jerk in your essay.

It doesn't strike me as a particularly compelling topic, but if you focus on how much you love math and what it means to you, so that the accomplishments are just one feature in an essay that's really about YOU, then it could work.

The way it works is that it talks about what I did with math and what I learned from it, how those skills and lessons will help me in college. Anyone feel like reading it over for me? Post your e-mail or private message me or whatever

Math seems like a pretty boring topic if its already illustrated by your awards, clubs, EC's, and SAT scores...I think you should take a different route that reveals a different side about you that will want them to have you on their campus. A lot of people love math, but what do you as a person have that can provide a unique aspect to their campus? They don't only want math geeks. Look deep inside and write about something else that can reveal your personality.
