You know those people in your classes who stick their noses in the air and haughtily glare at their peers?
They don't raise their hand to answer every question out of an innocent passion for the subject. Rather, they do so because they want to "impress" everyone with knowledge. Guess what, nobody's impressed! Are there a lot of people like this in top colleges? Do they ever see the light?

Who answers questions in class?

Yeah. There was a kid in a class I had that raised his hand just to ask if all the people used in an example were supposed to be examples of a concept we hadn’t yet learned. Everyone was just kind of looking at each other with this look of wth. The funny thing is, I’m sure the kid did it to impress people, yet I don’t think a single person was very impressed.

Or maybe they’re just bored out of their minds…

hm, I mainly participate in class just to get those participation points. Before any of you call me a grade wh0re, realize that not doing so is just shooting yourself in your foot.

Remember Oedipus? Remember General Douglas MacArthur? Remember… um…oh i don’t know. Tracy Flick works too. Of course there are others, my best friend for instance.

They’ll definitely get where they need to go, but at the same time, they’ll probably lead a life of loneliness. It’s their loss in the end haha, so don’t worry about them “impressing” others with knowledge.

Hopefully, the majority of people in top colleges are probably going to be nice, helpful, funny, chill, unobtrusive, and all around good guys. Remember, top colleges require interviews, and alumni are probably not going to look favorably upon stark arrogance.

“For what shall it profit a man if he gains his own world and loses his own soul?” Really sorry about the Bible quote if you guys aren’t religious lol, but it sums up what I’m trying to say quite nicely. I hope that you’ll forgive me :)

“Are there a lot of people like this in top colleges? Do they ever see the light?”
Yes. No.

MeSsiaH, I totally understand answering questions for the sake of participation points. Everyone does that and it’s completely justifiable. However, I’m talking about people who sport a strong “holier-than- thou” attitude. The ones who lean back in their chairs and roll their eyes at everyone else.

Thanks, desi_chick, for that realistic albeit depressing response.

Jayster, I really hope you’re right.

I have this girl in my french class that sang for “extra credit” and boasts about random French Knowledge, and she’s annoying and arrogant at the same time. It really grinds my gears…so to speak.

In my freshmen year, they placed me in a regular bio class because the honors bio class was full and so I was immensely bored in class. I’ll always participate just to make time fly by faster. So be in their shoes.

It’s not participation I don’t like, I participate. I don’t like when kids make references to things that nobody else knows about and that’s why they say them.

Yeah, answering questions is SOOO arrogant. What a Hermione Granger.

My view is that it’s perfectly OK to BE arrogant and express your feelings with your friends, but publicly being rude is just flat-out antisocial.

There is this girl in my Abnormal Psych class who answers every question. It’s really annoying. Like, I love Abnormal Psych too and I know the same stuff she does but she has to raise her hand every 5 seconds to say something that some people know already. She probably thinks she’s so smart and that she’s the only one who knows that stuff.

People, you’re not reading what I wrote! There’s nothing wrong with answering questions. It’s the attitude with which you answer the questions.

Nah, they’re not completely anti-social. They always have a little group of 2-3 friends who are just as obnoxious clustered around them.
