ARRRRGGH!!! Fell asleep due to probable narcolepsy in the middle of chemistry!

Over the last few months it's come to light that I probably have narcolepsy- I'm waiting on sleep tests to confirm the diagnosis- but the worst thing I could think of happening happened towards the end of the chemistry test- I started to doze off and came to about ten minutes later- with five minutes to finish 18 questions! I left 8-9 blanks, and rushed several more. I don't know if I have time to take them again before applying- what should I do? Is there anywhere on the applications where I can explain what happened? Chemical engineering is my intended major, so I don't think that this will look very good... if anyone has any advice please let me know!

I'm not sure on this, but if you can prove you have the disorder, I would contact Collegeboard and maybe they would let you retake it or something. But I'm really not sure.

That's exactly the problem- I won't have a sure diagnosis until next month, when the scores will already be out. I think I'll call them anyway.

that sucks.. best bet is to flee the country

i'm pretty sure when you have narcolepsy the REM state comes in so quickly that you wouldn't even notice that you were starting to doze off

Alej414, that's not necessarily true. Contrary to the Hollywood dramatizations, people with narcolepsy can usually resist for long enough to find somewhere to sit or lay down before they are completely overtaken (cataplexy can be almost instant, but usually only occurs after a shock or some sort of strong emotion). My neurologist said that this is especially true in the earlier stages where it can be as subtle as feeling very tired throughout the day.

It would be quite risky to contact the admin and let them know that you did not do well on the Chem SAT because of narcolepsy...so, what I would do if I were in your shoes is talk to my parents and career counselor at school. They might have some ideas about how you can approach the colleges. In the meantime, you can only wait for your diagnosis/Chem SAT results.
