I had 3 hours of sleep before SAT IIs... cost me big time... what should I do?

Skip the following 'rant' if you want, basically it says I got three hours of sleep before the test and therefore screwed up..............

i went to bed at 12 planning to wake up at 7:30...
and just lay there in bed tossing and turning for FOUR hours. I could not sleep for the life of me.
Didn't get to sleep until 4:00 AM. It was awful

So I show up to take these tests on 3 hours sleep, I drank a monster in the morning and thought I was doing ok on chem until the proctor calls time all of a sudden after 54 MINUTES!!!!! And I didn't get to 10 questions at the end plus I had skipped 3 before then for a total of 13 unanswered... So I am just hoping to salvage a 700 (but very well may be below that) and move on with it, probably to retake in november (SAT I in oct). I just wish they were offered in the summer...........

And for math II i wasn't on my game b/c i was tired so i was again pressed for time, skipped 6 and prob a few wrong

............So now I don't know what to do. I suppose I should NOT cancel the scores because I really need at least two subject tests and the only one I have taken already is Math Ic. I recently took chem and math II (for those of you who skipped the above part :))and because of a lot of different crappy things that happened, I didn't do as well as I know I could have. I am guessing I got 720-760 in math and 670-720 in chemistry.... in practice tests I was getting 800 and 750!!! So I'm really unhappy but I am trying to realize that there is nothing I can do now to change the scores I got.

But... since I'm applying to MIT- maybe early, and ivies, I feel that I need very high scores on these tests. I am definitely taking SAT reasoning in October (need to boost my CR score- it's 620 now) so that leaves november, which I believe will be too late for early apps (?) and that could potentially destroy my hopes for MIT.

But anyways I'm 90% sure I'm going to take french wish listening in november, and then I guess I will have to retake these (unless, miraculously, I did well on them) and submit them after my initial app goes in (?). Or maybe I should just cancel them and rely on november?

Is it possible that I could also challenge CB about the proctor calling time early on my first (chem) test?

Also, say I got 740 math 2, 700 or 690 in Chem, would colleges actually look down upon me if I retook those? What would you say the retake "cutoff score" is for an MIT/Penn/Brown/Dartmouth applicant? What if I wrote a note to colleges explaining the situation I had?... Nah I tend to think they wouldn't really care.

So... as you can see I'm a big mess and have no idea what I should do for both now and the future, and so I would REALLY REALLY appreciate any advice people had.

If you got lower than 750's I would retake (just because you KNOW that you can do better than you did). And why not just apply regular to MIT?

Personally I wouldn't cancel; maybe they turned out better than you thought, and then you don't have to worry about them in November (trust me, you'll have enough to worry about in the fall.)

First thing that goes when you're sleep deprived is sense of time.

I got 5 and a half hours of sleep and was fine and not feeling tired at all; I think the Monster was a really bad idea, guaranteed you would crash later.

yah...that was stupid, sorry, lol. i got like 16 hours of sleep

i tried to sleep but i was anxious and stuff and I was just lying in bed not able to fall asleep!!!!

thanks CDN Dancer, seeing that is a big relief... I have decided not to cancel.

Do you agree with the 750 cutoff score for retakes? On both tests? (or should I aim for 800 in math?) Thanks

sigh noone will ever know if you got an 800 math2 b/c you missed 0 or you missed ~5. Yet if you have like a 750, it's obvious you missed 7-9. I dunno, I have a similar dilemma. :(

If I got above a 750 I would not retake...it would look neurotic. but instead, i'd study and take another subj and hopefully make an 800 on that 1.

btw, I actually woke up this morning not remembering why I had to get up so early. :)

i went to sleep at 6PM
work up at 5 the next morning refreshed.
had 2 hours of review.

and aced both the Math IIC and Biology test

why am i saying this?
because getting enough sleep > cramming

don't cancel.
i actually thought about cancelling my score, but decided against it.

remember that there will be a curve & you probably didn;t do too bad, if you had previously studied for the test.

i actually had a lot of trouble falling asleep too. it took me about 2/3 hours to actually fall asleep. luckily i went to bed at 11 and on usual days i function on like 5 hours of sleep, so i was good to go. :]

I acually thought about cancelling chem last year.

But didn't.

Then i got an 800.

Well, I didn't cancel it. We'll see what happens.

i just hope it really is ok to get good scores on a retake if the originals aren't good enough (?)

I didn't fall asleep until around 2:30 and woke up around 6:30. But I had massive amounts of adrenaline going so I was pretty hyped up during the thing.

my night before the june 7 test day sucked.
i couldn't fall asleep until 3:30 am or something and had to get up at 6:30 to get ready and take 3 subject tests.
strangely, i didnt feel that woozy during the tests, and i was so glad my headache went away during breakfast

TLDR... 10char

laughcry that is similar to what I had...it sucked totally... but i figured out i still have a chance to get up to 800 math and 750 chem (at the highest) so I will just wait to see what happens.

I have another question though... since I am probably going to have to retake, should I study all summer to try to keep it in my brain or should I just forget it and study closer to the next test date?

i would keep studying...the more the better...maybe you can push chem to a 770

what do other people think? It is going to be a significant amount of time that I could have been studying for SAT I's or (just relaxing)... is it worth it?

Actually I was the opposite. I slept 3 hours before my sats and got 2 800's and one 780. I found that yes I would be tired but not in the morning when I wrote them.. I was dead tired around 4 pm, not earlier. There was actually a study I read on this, cramming > sleeping because in the morning you wont be tired because of three hours sleep.

Then again I perform very well under tiredness/pressure and I do work much more efficiently at night (12AM-6AM) than during the day =/
