Hi- I’m a highschool student looking into 2D animation. So I’ve narrowed down my choices to Art center and RISD even thought Art center doesn’t really teach animation they have a really nice illustration program that goes into animation. But my initial question is which school provides better scholarships and financial aid? I’ve heard RISD sometimes provides scholarships (but not much) but nothing on Art Center. I’d really appreciate an answer on this.
I’d encourage you to do more research into schools offering 2D animation. While RISD is highly regarded for many majors (I have a child there now) it is NOT really known for animation. There’s not a set major for animation and the illustration and film majors don’t really overlap (you can find their course listings online too and compare). Daughter was talking about that recently and said some of her classmates thinking of going that route were disappointed in that the illustration major doesn’t have much animation and the film dept was much more geared to traditional/indie kind of film and not much re animation either.
