I'm always been interested in learning to draw, but I don't really know how to approach it. I was thinking about taking some classes, as electives to my major, but I would hate to see my GPA thrashed by an art professor because he thought I was after an easy 'A.'

Do you think it would be tough for me to take a class at my university and come away relatively unblemished?

Or, would it be better to try out some community college stuff in the summer? Do you have to report those grades to graduate schools? Do they make it onto your transcript?

Sure, why not go to a community college to protect your GPA. Some faculty might be harder than others; can't really predict the outcome. Yes, you would have to provide transcripts. I took an art class one summer and was able to AUDIT the course. See if you can do that.

agree with community college option. If you take as adult ed, you can usually take with any grading.

Have you considered taking a drawing class not for credit? Some schools offer continuing ed. classes in the evening. Also, you could consider taking a summer class at a local art center, for starters.

Yeah, I'm not interested in getting credit at all, and would prefer if I could take a class without it marking my transcript. I'll look into local stuff this summer, thanks.

At FSU, we have an art center in our union where kids can take art classes, etc. I took half a semester of pottery for only $50 and made like 10 things. I know we also have a drawing class. Check to see if any schools you're interested in also have this :)
