Will be a high school junior in the fall; I’m very interested in art as well as business (but mostly art). I really like doing art on its own, but I’ve also been part of teen art councils and teen museum programs and I’ve really loved that. I just want to know, to all art/design majors, do you have any regrets about the major you chose and the things you did in high school in the process of applying to colleges (art or otherwise)?
Still have no clue what major I want to do or what college I want to go to – I like to think my stats are pretty good, it’s more a problem of an overwhelming amount of options, rather than no options.
Sorry if this is in the wrong section, still learning to use this website
A friend’s daughter is in design at Iowa State, and absolutely loves it. They have their own program in Rome where both fashion and interior design students spend a semester working with Fendi (previous knowledge of Italian is not necessary, although there is a short, immersive course when the student gets to Rome). She loves her classes at Iowa State too, and has done similarly cool projects there.
That sounds amazing! Does her daughter know what potential career she wants once she’s out of college?
Interior design, I suppose you would call it. Not helping people renovate their homes per se, but something of a larger scale. She wants to work with architects or contractors to tweak their designs of large buildings (office buildings, public buildings), and make spaces in their buildings both efficient and pleasing.
My D is a HS senior and as of now she is looking to attend Iowa State and major in Interior Design. The design school has several different disciplines and as the other poster mentioned the Rome program is really good as well. My D is also more interested in commercial design rather than residential but part of the freshman core program they get introductions into other design majors to help them find which one they have more of a passion around.
