Art History Department?

I was recently accepted which is honestly a dream come true since I was waiting for a rejection letter honestly.
Currently am debating between American U or UT Austin, Does anyone know how good the department is? I would love to visit but am from Texas and wont be able to afford to fly in and visit. Any information would be really great!

Hi caffeinatedsquid-
My son is an International Studies major and I don’t really know anything first-hand about the quality of AU’s Art History program versus UT-Austin’s, but… If post-graduation employment data for AU is any indication of the program’s quality, see www.american.edu/weknowsuccess/ . At the 6 month point after graduation with from AU with an Art History degree, 95% of graduates are employed, in grad school, or both. It also states that 93% of Art History majors do internships. Work sites include the National Air and Space Museum, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Sotheby’s.

The two schools and DC and Austin are very different from each other! If all other things are equal (and I don’t know if they are, but…) it depends on what you’re looking for in your college experience. If you’d like to try DC but think you might miss Texas, American has a student organization to help with that: AU Texans.

Best of luck, whatever you choose.
