Time to discuss the FRQ for the 2008 AP Art History Exam! By the way, does anyone know the curve for the exam? Thanks!

I chose Women of Willendorf for the 1st essay because I had a brain fart and forgot about Ancient Egypt until halfway through my 2nd paragraph.

For the last long essay, I also wrote Jean-Christo Claude throughout the entire essay because my mind was going dyslexic. Will I get marked off for that?

That would be totally incorrect (in reference to "Women of Willendorf"). First of all it would be Venus of Willendorf because it asked for a specific art piece. Second of all, you are never supposed to write about prehistoric art on the essays because there is not sound evidence to support it. The evidence that historians have is speculated evidence (ie: The "Venus of Willendorf" was believed to have been a religious icon, used in hope that a woman would become pregnant). Third of all there is no such thing as Women of Willendorf, it is Venus of Willendorf. Fourth of all it asked for one European and one Non European piece from a specific civilization ("Venus of Willendorf" does not belong to any particular civilization, since historians do not know the makeup of Prehistroic nomads). I believe that if you had said "Venus of Willendorf" they might have let it slide, but since you said Women of Willendorf it is completely wrong. Once again, if you had said "Venus of Willendorf" it would have been correct.

Really, I don't think "Woman of Willendorf" versus "Venus of Willendorf" would be a huge concern to the graders, considering it has no official name. Secondly, though you are correct that the meaning of the piece is unknown, I have heard conflicting reports of whether or not it counts as non-euro.

I myself chose willendorf too, but am not too concerned whether or not I receive max credits for it, considering that I think I did well enough on every other section.

For the second long essay, I played it safe and chose Warhols "Marylin Diptych" and Smithson's "Spiral Jetty" because they are very different in regards to mediums and their messages are easy to talk about. I wish I had done something more obscure though, like a Frankenthaler or an Albright piece.

I loved all of the short essay questions.

I'm planning to take this course online and I was just wondering if you think that is advisable.

i chose marilyn for the first and last essay
i guess it was the only thing that came to mind
also does anybody where the wood carving is from?

I think the woodcarving sculpture was Gothic.

I wrote about:

Menkaura and His Queen

"Cornelia, Mother of the Gracchi" by Angelica Kauffman
for the first essay

for the last essay:
1. Maya Lin's Vietnam War Memorial
2. Frank Gehry's Bilboa, Spain "Guggenheim Museum"

The wood carving was Romanesque.

I had the same exact second essay as smder99 (Lin and Gehry) although I screwed up Lin's first and Gehry's last name lol.

Do you think they would accept Norman Rockwell for the 2nd frq?

The wooden madonna is the Morgan Madonna and it is French Romanesque.

I BS'd the last FRQ so much. I chose Botero, which art historians will most likely not know because he is specific to Colombian art .. and some Enviromental Art work I don't even remember.

I chose Luncheon on/at the Grass and Poplos Kore for the first.

Travard...thats two European works..you needed one Non-Western work

DAMN IT I HATE FIRST NAMES.

i wrote ANDREW instead of JACKSON, Pollock (lol andrew jackson)
and MARY instead of MAYA, Lin

anyways how deep is the **** in which i stand?

^
For the slide based questions, I got 13/26 right. 0_o

1st FRQ:
The Ivory belt mask of a queen mother from the bini tribe in africa.
Madonna of the long neck by Paraminto (spelled it better on the exam)

Last FRQ:
Jenny Holzer's "Truisms"
John Cabot's 4'33''

LOL I didn't realize on the first FRQ that you could go past to where the topic was repeated. lol

I miss-identified the Morgan Madonna. I called it Dutch because "They had weird shoes."

I called the painting Monet instead of Van Goh, but I mentioned him and the impressionists.

I had this course online, just realize no one is going to hold your hand and they probably won't even notice if you don't read the chapter. You have to make sure your read yourself, no matter how boring the book may be.

Since when is Greek European? -_- Lol, I guess I could've figured that..
