I was accepted ED this year, and my classes were:
US Gov AP
Bio AP
Chinese 4 AP
Econ
English Lit AP
Calc BC

however, since I am terrible at math and I struggled mightily in calc, I asked my regional director if it was okay to drop calc. he replied that although Penn allows dropping of classes to replace them with those of equal rigor, dropping calc BC would not be allowed. period.

your course load looks great, especially in your senior year, but from what I’ve learned about how much Penn values calc BC from the email, maybe you could try to pick up BC. and in case you’re wondering, I listed my major as Modern Middle Eastern studies, so I believe they weigh taking calc BC heavily regardless of major

That’s actually really funny, I just decided a few hours ago that I was going to take BC. And your input just made me feel much better about my decision. :)

One more question. Would it help me significantly to take that 6th AP class (Gov or Euro) or would I be okay taking just 5? I’d like to have more free periods, as it is my senior year and all, but maybe that wouldn’t be the wisest choice.

haha that’s awesome. glad my input was useful

it would help. but at the same time, taking so many classes that you can’t handle them isn’t going to be good. there seems to be a perception that senior year isn’t as bad as the other years (junior year, specifically), but you figure in the college apps and senioritis, and it’s a tough year to get through. if you’ve taken 6 APs before and feel like you’ll have enough time for apps and extracurriculars, by all means do so. I can tell you that having a tough course load senior will look good but it’s your call on whether you think you can handle it.

sorry for the ambiguity, but it’s the best advice I could come up with. good luck in your future years in high school!

I think your course load looks good. I got in ED as a prospective history major, and I’m taking:

AP Calc AB (BC isn’t offered)
AP Physics C
AP Psychology
AP English Lit
Honors French IV
Ind Study in Renaissance History
Honors Theatre Arts IV

I took AP US and AP English Language as a junior, AP Euro as a sophomore.

I feel confident with my schedule, and yours looks good too, however I have to warn you that a girl at my school decided to take 7 APs this year (we have 7 periods in the day, she took one outside of school) and she is drowning. Like literally she never comes to school and she’s failing a lot of her classes. So please, keep in mind that you need to keep it reasonable, and if you can handle a 6th AP, go for it, but I got in with less and 5 is already a LOT. Senior year is not easy and you shouldn’t underestimate it.

I’ve been thinking… Is it really necessary to take a science senior year if my major (art history/English) clearly is not going in that direction? I’m taking AP Chemistry right now and I’ve realized that it’s just not my thing… On the other hand I really enjoy my AP US History class.

So I’ve done a little tweaking… Would this schedule suffice as well?

AP English Literature & Composition
AP Art History
AP Spanish
AP Calculus BC
AP American Government & Politics

I could technically add one more class, but as samesies noted, I don’t want to be drowning in work senior year.

I can’t say for SURE whether that would be okay, but i THINK it would.
I was accepted ED, and I essentially did the reverse; I applied as a physics major and dropped language (actually, I didn’t even take a language my junior year haha oops). My junior year APs were English Language and Chemistry (5s) and this year I’m taking AP stat, AP Art History, AP Physics B (no C at my school), Calc BC, and AP Lit.

so. 5 APs instead of 6 is okay (I’m taking chorus currently instead of a language, history, or bio) and not taking a science if you are replacing it with a course more applicable to your interests is most likely okay as well.
hope that helped!

Haha my schedule actually looks alot like that for next year! But I happen to be taking Calc AB a year early, I’m a junior. Does that matter a lot to Penn? Our school offers BC but I’m taking like 5 other APs right now and honestly I’m not very good with math. So if I do pretty well on the exam, and I make an A in the class, would taking AB really impact my application much? I would love to go to Penn is why!
