Is a portfolio usually needed when applying to minor in art? Should I check with the schools during college visits?

Rarely, but I guess it is possible. From what I know usually you get accepted into the school for your desired major, and then fill out an application for the minor. I’d bet you’d not need a portfolio for your application, but check the schools you are interested in. This was the case for the schools I looked at when I was applying, and those that did not did not have minors. That information is usually available online along with the application. Some schools may allow you to use your portfolio as a supplement when you apply though, which can help your application stand out.

Thanks for the help!
