I’m a senior applying to a number of art programs of universities, and I’m kind of confused on the entire process for uploading an art portfolio.
What is considered an acceptable title for the art pieces (especially for still life)?
How do you choose the order of the pieces?
My photos have been slightly touched up on photoshop to add contrast and such - but how much editing is ok?
Any advice would be appreciated!

There are lots of good pointer on line but this is one place to start. Just google “how to put together a portfolio for art school”.
What sort of art program are you interested in? They all have different requirements.
Are the students allowed to digitally enhance their portfolios?
@NYCMomof3 I would assume that digitally enhancing portfolio photos would be a no-no but I don’t remember seeing that plainly stated.
@itsreallymia that’s what I would assume too. My daughter just submitted her Portfolio but never enhanced in digitally.
The link I posted said to take pictures in natural light (like go outside in uniform light) or make sure a 3 D piece has good sources of light in all directions. When my D did portfolio for college it was in the form of slides which cannot be altered. The best advice is to take the best quality picture you can which shouldn’t need enhancement.
I think my kid just altered the lighting of her pieces, not the actual work itself in Photoshop
For now, I’ve only applied to the VCU arts program. How important are titles and descriptions of the pieces in the overall admissions process? I usually ended up with very straightforward titles and descriptions - would this affect my application a lot?
Digitally enhancements in your arts and drawings is not a bad practice until you keep it all original. IF you enhance your work too much, it will lose its origin resulting bad reputation for you. About making portfolios, Behance is the best online portfolio site, that enables you to connect globally with designers, animators, illustrators, artists, and 3d Designers.

My daughter just got her acceptance letter from VCU Arts less than 4 weeks after applying. All I can tell you is that she was very descriptive for each art piece she submitted in her portfolio. She usually outlined why she did the piece, what techniques she used and the theme of it. Her portfolio consisted of paintings and charcoal drawings. Hope this helps.
@uhavenojamz just shoot in natural light (outside worked best) and use a good camera on a tripod. I don’t recall the names being a big issue. And stay away from photoshopping anything. The pieces should look similar to if they were looked at in person.
