Art Requirement Crisis

I was under the impression that yearbook would count as an art credit for UCLA but when I was talking with my regional admissions officer, they said it was not. They weren’t very clear about what to do and they told me to ask someone else but I literally don’t know who I would ask. Should I just not able to apply since I don’t meet the requirements or should I try anyways?

You can try to apply, but the VPA requirement is there for a reason and it is still a requirement. You can take a semester Art class at your local community college, take the AP exam for Art History/Music Theory or AP studio art or look for an on-line UC approved VPA course to fulfill the requirement by graduation. I know posters have contacted the UC’s asking about the VPA requirement and were told to submit their application, but I heard they were rejected to due not fulfilling the requirement. If there is some special circumstance for not fulfilling the requirement, you could have your GC explain the situation. It is up to you if you want take the chance and spend the $70 application fee.

I recommend finding a way to take a semester of art at your local community college. One semester of community college art counts as one year of high school art so you can fulfill this requirement starting in January. Hopefully they have a class in the evening or weekend so not to interfere too much with your high school classes.
