@magnetnh he sounds like my daughter. Her first choice School was RIT because she preferred to be at a university with a strong arts program. She didn’t want to spend four years with only art students but wanted a nice mix of people. She knew that there was a high probability that she would end up at an art school because of her wanting a BFA in computer animation.
@NYCMomof3 a letter through the mail!
Does anyone have insights into which college is better for product design among Parsons, Pratt, SAIC and SVA?
@PhoenixB - Someone else might have more updated info but for industrial design my hunch is Pratt has had the edge over Parsons and SVA. Not sure about any recent comparisons to SAIC so if I run across anything insightful I’l be sure to pass it along. If it hasn’t happened yet, a visit to the three NYC schools will probably help a lot toward a decision.
@KCHWriter congrats on BARD!
Thank you @JBStillFlying.
@magnetnh I’m sorry that your son did not get accepted ED to Trinity. Will his application then be reviewed in the RD process? We have a HS junior D; she is interested in art colleges, but we would like her consider LACs with a strong art program as well. I have not considered Trinity until your post. Could you share the reasons why your son likes Trinity? Their website concerning studio major only provided general info. Thanks.
@magnetnh I misread your post. I see that he was deferred to RD round.
@BadKerning, how did you hear from SAIC (ie, email, snail mail, etc.)? And CONGRATS!
@KCHWriter I got my SAIC letter through the mail! A large packet, scholarship info included.
@cag60093 DS visited and liked the facilities, their interarts program and 5th year art fellowship. He wanted an LAC so he could be with other majors and liked the urban feel. He was deferred to TD and for other RD he will now add Conn College, Skidmore, Wesleyan and Holy Cross. If you want an LAC look at those but also consider Amherst and Williams. They will be competitive but offer great art resources.
does anyone know how many people are awarded the presidential scholarship at SAIC ?
@QueenEileen, from SAIC’s website, the Presidential Scholarship is reserved for those applying for a “Post-Baccalaureate Certificate.”
@QueenEileen My D has been awarded a Presidential scholarship for the undergrad program. This is over 4 years with a slightly increasing scale. I’m not sure how many students get awarded this but the total amount is similar to what she’s got from Parsons and SCAD and lower than that from CCA. So my guess is that a Presidential scholarship is not uncommon.
SVA acceptance email arrived today with a scholarship award info. The packet has not arrived…maybe in tomorrow’s mail.
Yay for your DD, NYCMom3! I know SVA was high on her list.
DD got acceptance packet and scholarship from Pratt today. The tough thing is the numbers are running close between Pratt and Drexel - we need to sit down with a college financial aid guy and get very firm numbers on each school with regard to added fees, housing and (for Drexel) co-op expenses that might not be covered by scholarship. DD is so excited - they were her top two choices…now the question is can we afford them?!
@proserpine oohhh that’s exciting that she got her top two choices! Now they get to fight for her :))
We haven’t received any scholarship info from RIT so she is hesitant to get excited until we see the numbers. SVA only sent the scholarship info not FA info…so once the new year comes, I will call and inquire. Maybe SVAs packet will have that info…I’ll soon find out.
Congrats @NYCMomof3 and @proserpine !! You must be very happy and relieved.
Congratulations all around!!! I love seeing all of your artists with such great choices!
@proserpine I lived near Pratt for 7 yrs or so. There is something really cool about the way Pratt students move within the neighborhood.
itsreallymia, we both loved the Pratt campus and the area surrounding it looked neat. We had a terrific lunch just off campus. It would be further for her to head home for the holidays, but maybe more trips up to NYC for me. Philadephia is a lot closer for us, totally different kind of school. Loads of questions for those second looks during Admitted Student Days this winter!
