@Aceris I went to Ringling precollege and was able to get to go to a detailed presentation on each major (except VR development, since that was announced only late 2017), and after what you have said about yourself, I really feel like you would enjoy motion design. Look up some of the student work!
Motion Design uses animation, graphic design, and many other elements in one major. The way your phone’s screen transitions when you open an app is part of motion design, and really it has a huge job industry waiting for you after graduation. I don’t really know much about science, but I feel like motion design can really be what you make of it.
@CAShirl : thank you for posting how your daughter’s 1st semester as a CA at Ringling. My son just received his acceptance letter to CA at Ringling today. He is so happy cos this is the school he wants to go. So my questions are: did u attend the ACCEPTED student day ? How was it and is it worth it? We live in Iowa so we probably have to fly to Ringling. What dorm did you daughter live in? Any suggestions to dorm option? What will your daughter do different in her 1st yr at Ringling if she has the chance to redo them?
well i emailed to pratt admissions when the decision will be made out and they just replied.
decision mail will be sent between NOW AND APRIL 1ST!! best wishes hope i get in
Update to anyone applying to Pratt: I emailed admissions and they got back to me saying that they will start sending decisions next week, and continue sending them out until April 1st.
@AskExperts . Did he get accepted for CA too? Congrats! So is my son. R u planning to attend ACCEPTED student day? Where do u guys live? We are from Iowa. So it will b a long drive
@Killerbees18 Yes my son got accepted to animation program at Ringling. Since my son went to the pre-college program at Ringling last summer, he is quite familiar with the school and the town. We are still debating how much value he can gain if he attends the accepted student day. We are from Texas.
@AskExperts Wow, your son and I went to precollege the same year and we’re both from Texas. Maybe we’ll be classmates next year! Except I’m an illustration student, haha.
@CAShirl , thank you for posting your D’s 1st yr at Ringling as as a CA. My son just got his acceptance letter Thursday for 2018Admission as a CA to Ringling too. I am at cloud 9 now. Would you mind giving me tips about which dorm he should choose and is there any negotiations interms of getting more merit scholarships? He only got $8k a yr and we will not be qualified for need base. Any info will be greatly appreciated.
Hey there. I hadn’t been on in about a week. I am just about to head out the door, but will respond when I get back. Congrats to all of the Ringling acceptances.
As far as merit scholarships, we did not try. I had heard that they don’t hand out the same sort of money that other schools do so didn’t try. Can’t hurt to ask.
As far as dorms, I don’t remember my daughter having a choice other than whether she wanted a double or triple. Freshman have their own dorms. The main one is Goldstein, and then there are 3 others – Appleton, Idelson and I am blanking on the third. The largest number of freshman kids live in Goldstein. It is new and clean. We were waiting to hear from one other school so did not fill out the housing application right away. Your housing is based on where you fall in the line of when you turn in your contract. They hand out initial building assignments (building, not room) in July I believe, and she was initially assigned to one of the other 3 (I think Appleton) because we handed it in just before the deadline. By time final assignments rolled around, she had been moved to Goldstein, and she is very happy about that. She has a triple connected to a double by a shared bathroom. Her room is plenty big enough for the 3.
I don’t know if they have done it yet, but there was a private Facebook page set up for Accepted Students. The kids started getting to know each other there and many set up roommates. You don’t have to have picked out your roommate ahead of time, but a lot of the kids did, My daughter set up one roommate that way, and they had a third who last minute decided not to attend Ringling so they ended up with an assigned 3rd person. Ironically, in terms of roommates, that is the person that she is closest too.
My daughter loves it. There have been some ups and downs, but she has managed well. She has learned a ton. Today they were doing animal studies and went to a big cat rescue to draw. Gouf whose daughter went a couple of years ago, advised my daughter to be open to hearing criticism and to learn from it and not take it personally. Most of the kids coming here were A art students and suddenly are getting B and Cs. Tough on the ego, but my daughter knows she is improving and learning to do things she couldn’t before. They work hard in CA, and it gets harder each year. My daughter was an A student in high school and has put in more late nights at Ringling than she did in HS.
I will add as I think of things and if you have any other specific questions, feel free to ask or message me.
