@ArtAngst my D who is a senior at Pratt was given her EA acceptance package by third week of Dec.with merit scholarship included. At the time, this was considered standard practice and I thought there had also been an e-mail notifying her of admission (but no mention of scholarship - that information is just included in the regular mail packet). The FA letter in the spring basically offered Stafford loans but we weren’t expecting any need-based aid anyway.
My daughter also had a private review her senior year which was much nicer than the madhouse at SAIC (our closest NPD for catching Pratt). I think it was in a nearby hotel and apparently was an enjoyable experience for her. I’m sure it helped with her merit. Funny story: she had visited Pratt at NPD the year prior and they basically good naturedly trashed her artwork but spent time pointing out (and apparently debating with each other) which of her stuff showed promise and which didn’t. She was fascinated. Left with a ton of great feedback and worked super hard over the next year to impress them. Had she wilted due to the criticism (some of which was very blunt) she never would have improved or ended up there. I think she really enjoyed that first meeting and felt that they gave her the kind of tough crit. that she really needed to improve. She wanted more, so was very glad to be accepted with enough merit to allow her to attend.
Congrats to all the EA decisions and $$$!!! I just decided to peek in and see how everyone is coming along! So exciting and nerve wracking all at the same time! My SVA girl will be home the 19th, I just can’t wait! If any of you go tour, her work was chosen to display in the animation gallery (layout designs) and then again in the student gallery (anatomy class drawings… bones, torso skeleton, etc), so you might see it! She’s very excited!
Woot! S logged into their portal and saw he has an EA acceptance from Parsons this afternoon…of course, he told me hours later at dinner. But hey, at least he told me
@ArtAngst YAY!!! Congrats! Thats awesome news!!
Still nothing here in D’s admission hub. Only showing that they received all material for application. Does not look too positive.
@SomaRathore fingers crossed for your kiddo too! I thought he got an email, but then he clarified that he did that whole re-login thing with his portal so that’s how he found out (there’s a thread on the Parsons page from last year explaining). So it’s not ‘official’ official yet. Also he got application in a bit before the deadline, so maybe that made a difference in knowing a little early?
@ArtAngst D is so nervous that she said she wont log in at all! She had sent the application early too but the counselor sent in the school documents the morning of the 1st Nov!!! and now I am seeing that her transcripts said they received it on the 2nd it could have got processed a day later. So I do not know now if that will make a diff in the EA. Parsons could be a bit too much for us financially, but the rejection is what she is not ready to deal with right now so she told me she wont look.
Son son tried the login late last week too & saw nothing & got all bummed (I guess he heard somewhere online that others had gotten acceptances) - I kind of wished I didn’t know about it until it’s “official”.
@SomaRathore - why don’t you two call Admissions and make sure that the transcript thing didn’t compromise her? BTW, betting it didn’t because students are rarely held responsible for the delays caused by their counselors and schools. It’s typically the student’s app. that has to be in by the deadline and supporting materials are given a few extra days of cushion. But call and ask anyway.
@JBStillFlying Thank you! I just did and they said what you mentioned that as long as its the school they will consider it until a few days later. Don’t know why i did not think to call
@Vineyarder@NYart15 Thanks. However if she doesnt find a big chunk of scholarship outside the merit we cant afford it. She is happy anyway that she wasn’t rejected. Dont think FAFSA will give us anything.
