I have a general and specific question regarding art school admissions.

1) How does art school admissions actually work? I heard that a few schools don't even look at your standardized test scores in the admissions process. If so, will these art schools only look at your portfolio, making the whole process somewhat subjective? Or do they look at other criteria, too?

2) My girlfriend is going to be majoring in fashion design, so she's been working hard on her portfolio for the past few months. She recently got really stressed when she found out that one of her friends is going to major in fashion design as well. Because this friend's dad is a fashion designer himself, she got a internship at his company and managed to hire a professional designer to make her portfolio for her. I felt this was really unfair because this friend cannot draw for her life; I then began to wonder if there were other otherwise inartistic students who would hire professionals to make their portfolios for them for college admissions.

Do/Can art schools weed out these students or is this just example of the unfairness of college admissions?

Thanks.
