art school recommendations

My daughter is a rising senior who is interested in painting. Academically, she is OK, GPA around 3.3. She has above average SAT scores but not great scores. She wants to go to school in or near a reasonably sized city. She has looked at MICA (visited) and went to off-site presentations from SCAD and SAIC.

What schools (she is definitely not interested in attending a liberal arts college) have strong programs in drawing and painting?

Rhode Island School of Design is a great art school for painting. Although most of the successful RISD applicants have pretty high GPA and SAT/ACT scores, your daughter can have a good chance if she has a great portfolio.

SAIC, RISD, and MICA are top art schools for painting that your daughter should definitely apply to. SAIC and MICA are generally easier to get into than RISD. It seems like Cranbrook Academy of Art is also ranked high for painting as well..but I don't know if it's in a reasonably sized city.

Cranbrook is MFA only, they don't offer a BFA.

MICA has a great painting department. RISD does as well, SAIC, and Cooper.

There's also SMFA and MassArt in Boston. I don't know how that compare to others with regard to their painting and drawing program, but Boston is a great city and both schools are within walking distance of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

oopsie..sorry about the misinformation on my previous post! >_<
