My friend's daughter is interested in some schools with a strong Art Program (drawing, painting). Some LAC's and State Universities might work better than a stand alone art School. She has scored in the 2000-2050 with the new SAT. I am thinking Skidmore and Manhattenville but a longer list would help. CMU might be too much of a reach but a school similar but easier to get into would help. She lives in the NYC area. I have given her the list of Art Schools in the city (SVA, Pratt, etc) but I could use some other suggestions.

hey npi, how's that Princeton kid doing?

For LACs with strong studio art programs I'd second Skidmore and add Vassar, Hamilton, Kenyon, Conn College, Wesleyan, Williams. Her SATI is on the low side for the last two, but not out of the question if she puts together a strong portfolio.

Tufts has a joint program with the Museum School of Fine Art in Boston. She would get two degrees from Tufts: a BA and a BFA. It may be a 5 year program, but I am not sure. You need to call them up.

Tufts is a good choice for her as she mentioned that she would like to go to school in Boston. Thanks!

And one more, Smith. Excellent art opportunities and reasonable admission rate.

If she is in NY then, Alfred University would be a great choice. Its School of Art and Design is part of the Suny system and she would be able to attend a private LAC where she could get a BFA for the price of a state school. Also, it appears that she would qualify for a scholarship on the basis of her SAT scores.
