Which one do i use, the common app one, or the one from colleges?
for example
harvard has an arts supplement and so does the common app
which one to use?

I would stay as consistent as possible. So if you’re submitting a regular Harvard application through the common app, use the common app arts supplement as well.

You should always go to the college’s website as well if anything specific is required. Harvard’s supplement FAQ:

[Supplemental Application Materials](http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/apply/application_process/supplements.htm)

OP, Stanford requires you to use their Arts Supplement. Harvard is okay with
any or none (you could just use a letter of introduction with an attached Arts
Specific Resume).

The instructions you follow for submissions have to be college specific if these
instructions are available. Use Common App Arts instructions only if College Specific
is not present. (Stanford will notaccept the submissions if you use any other
instructions contrary to their own for example).
