Art Supplement

hey..
do you need to be an arts student to submit an art supplement? photography is a passion and hobby of mine.. can i submit a supplement?

thanks!

i had the exact same question as you. i have a pretty substantial portfolio (of photography) but i’m not a student and it’s basically a hobby. i chose not send anything, partially because i was already sending a music supplement. i think photography is such a widespread and easily accessible art that they might not take a photography supplement from a non-student seriously. or at least that was my reasoning…

hmmm yea good point… but i was deferred recently from ED, and my reasoning now is “nothing to lose”

i was deferred too, and i agree with this reasoning. so if you do feel like this would help your application, go for it; just make sure to really rigorously follow the instructions on the columbia website. it seems obvious, but i think this is especially important when the relevance isn’t totally clear from looking at your transcript and activities.
