I have a feeling I'm going to be spamming questions for a while.

I contacted admissions and asked them about the "2 art supplements" statement and they told me it could be in the same area (so for example, you could turn in 2 visual art portfolios).

I'm interested in making two, one for my drawing/paintings, and the other for digital art, the kind drawn in Photoshop, Paint Tool SAI, etc. For the digital art, do I print out the art and send in a hard copy or send it via a video because it's "digital media"?

On the other hand, while my traditional art is more along the lines of fine art, my digital drawings are more fanart based, so I don't really think they'll appreciate that because of copyright and whatnot?

I think it’s great that you’re going through with the Arts Supplement. I also planned on doing one (for music), but a) need more time for essays, b) I do electronic music and I don’t think Stanford will get that, c) no one will give me a good recommendation. Hopefully my essays will show my passion, if not talent, for music production.

Anyways, to get back on topic, Stanford will not care about copyright. And even if they did, fan art is legal; in fact, copyright holders like people doing fan art because it helps establish a wider audience. As long as you’re not tracing the works, I think Stanford will be able to see the artistic merit of whatever you’re sending in.

The the poster above me. I think stanford would find your music interesting. The officers are human after all. And I’m sure music would be a unique thing to add to your application.

I emailed them just in case so I can be sure there aren’t any legal issues, because I know for AP Art and similar portfolios, there are copyright issues. But I hope they allow it because I have several pieces in mind.

If you think your electronic music shows skill, I say add it on. Even if the music department is geared towards the finer musics, it could add an extra dimension for the applicant readers to show that you have more than just your passion in writing.

Haha, sorry for changing the course of the thread to be about me. Like I said, I’m sort of a deadline type of guy, and October 15 is ehhh. Plus I could ask my AP Music Theory teacher for a recommendation, but she doesn’t know me too well. I did most of the music stuff outside of class without telling her of anything. I was planning to do a class at a local university and have the professor write a recommendation for me, but they cancelled the course for whatever reason.

Thanks for everyone’s concern though.

(I’m not ruling out sending the arts supplement atm, but I need to make sure I can get everything ready by like October 7th before I’ll decide to send in the early application 2 weeks early)

I think AP Art has copyright issues because they publish examples on their site, and they wouldn’t want to inadvertently violate someone’s IP and get sued.

Ah yeah, the deadline is so meh. I’m going to end up sending it the day of or something. I don’t even have any essays finalized because I keep changing my mind on the topic, or I write something and realize the next day that I don’t like it.

Welp, I’ll just wait for a final confirmation from Stanford itself and see where it goes.
