Hello, so I’m planning on applying EA to MIT and noticed the option to submit things like a research supplement or art portfolio. I’m interested in STEM related fields, and plan to enter Computer Engineering/Computer Science in the hopes of becoming a software engineer. I’m submitting a research supplement that I did over the summer.
Would a digital art portfolio be appropriate as a showcase of outside hobbies/passions? It’s digital art, with not necessarily “artwork” like paintings in things. It’s mainly drawn characters (some in a sort of semi-real anime style), or “creatures” drawn and colored for an"adoptable" site.
Just to elaborate a little, there’s a small website with creatures/animals and things that users can adopt and level up and play games around the site and things. I joined when I was little, and since have drawn things like fan art, and have recently applied to be an official artist for the website, with a decent chance of being accepted.
Just looking for opinions, since I’m not sure of the purpose of the digital art portfolio, or if it’s worth mentioning if not pursuing an art degree/not with typical “artwork”-like pieces.
Thanks!
((Having written this and thinking about it, this interest in drawing for websites/games/applications might add a little flavor to my application? It’s kind of hard for me to explain this adoptable site and drawing for it in a way that sounds professional haha))
