From today's Daily Collegian

The response from Dean Brady reguarding the core council recommendations is much more interesting and gives additional insight in to the honors college selection process.

SCbob,
That was an awesome letter…not sure how you got it!
Two things struck me.
1). It seems that their responses indicated that there was some tension and ignorance at a very high level in the university about the role and mission and even every day functioning of the SHC.
2). It seems that PSU and the SHC are not intending to more aggressively pursue in-state academically talented students. Their focus is out of state and minorities. Having a current college freshman and hs junior in PA, this is somewhat disappointing. They are correct in their assessment that they are not competing very well financially to attract top students…and for in-state students this is not likely to change even with $100 million in new funding. I can name probably a dozen schools where guaranteed merit scholarships exist for full tuition for top students…who would receive only $4000 at SHC/PSU. A signal of the importance PA places on education…

- Not to mention another state-related university about 130 miles to the west of State College. (Although it seems that Pitt’s emphasis is also on bringing in OOS students as well.)
