Hello,
I am currently a student at a Philosophy major at a California Community College looking to transfer next Fall. I am attempting to go to graduate school for AI after I graduate and am attempting to prepare for everything I need to learn before then. For now I have been studying math at home outside of school and am planning on testing into a math class after I transfer. However, I am completely unaware of the process of applying to graduate schools and want to know what I should focus on to develop the perfect application for graduate school as I currently am aiming for Berkeley’s school of AI and it is highly competitive. Can anyone please help me with some tips for what I should work on? I haven’t taken a single computer science class yet either and am worried about how my application may look.
AI is usually a subtopic of Computer Science and as such, you will need to have a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering to be admitted to these programs. If this is your goal, you need to apply for a CS major when you transfer from the CC and when you are completing your CS degree, you need to get solid grades and get involved in research. Since you will also have to take the GRE exam, your math skills need to be strong.
This means that you have to transfer into a CS program and this requires Calculus. You will have to take at least one or two Calculus courses depending on the program. You need to get started on this right away and not just self-study math and CS.
