Can't believe i missed that sneak peak on the 22nd! I've been following everyone's posts on this musical theatre board for several months, but haven't posted often. Glad to hear from others who are anxiously awaiting ARTS award results. Anyone know why some have already received letters when the big date is supposed to be Dec 1?

edmondsg:

Good question.
Does NFAA send notification FIRST,
before public announcements/website?

It seems more contests do it that way.
However in 1 case, a contest put up winners on website before individual notification.

Not to make anyone more nervous, but as I recall my D got her Honorable Mention notification letter just before the winners were posted on the website - maybe a day before?. Everyone who entered eventually gets a letter, but only winners (Finalists, Honorable Mention and Merit awards) are officially notified "quickly" by snail mail. Everyone will be able to check their scores online once the list is posted. And if things are the same, a score of 10 = Finalist, 9 = Honorable Mention and 8 = Merit Award.

Congrats to all who have already heard and fingers crossed for others. Seems as though CC will be well represented in the awards listings.

By the way, her check didn't come until June!!

theatermom ,
Thanks for the helpful info!
Yes, the 11/22 NFAA letter to D said checks mailed "June 2006".

Hope more notificiations will be posted on CC!

theatremom
I have read my student's letter for honorable mention acting and it says the check for $250 will be received in June 2006.

congratulations to all who participated.

The score check can still be accessed through Google.

Wow, amazing tip for the link & THANKS!!

it doesn't work, though..you get an error page. oh well, should be up tomorrow anyway

Link works, you must click on the link that's posted at CC page!
(i.e. not the link that's sent to your via any email update)

Greetings from Chris Schram, Vice President of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts and its ARTS (Arts Recognition and Talent Search) program. We are thrilled that everyone has been discussing ARTS so enthusiastically, and we are always available via phone or email to answer questions.

We disabled the score check page officially until we post the winners lists on our website tomorrow (Thursday, December 1st).

We want the students to receive their notification about winning awards directly from us and not from an impersonal website listing. The Finalists' packets of paperwork and invitation letters were sent FedEx on Monday, Nov 21st. The Honorable Mention letters were sent regular mail on Tues the 22nd and the Merit letters went out on Wed before we took the Thanksgiving break. We started on the letters to students who were not selected for an award on Monday the 28th and completed that mailing today (Wednesday the 30th).

ARTS 2006 received over 6,500 registrations. It takes us several days to double-check the scores and clean-up the lists, which is why the results are not instantaneously posted/announced. Some students atually decline an ARTS Week invitation and we then invite a previously-identified alternate (it's rare, but it happens). We'd rather wait a few days and announce a clean list instead of posting a preliminary version which then must be changed at a later date.

The 160 ARTS Week National Finalists for 2006 will be coming from 32 states as well as DC. In our 25th anniversary year, we are excited to have our first-ever National Finalist in Native American Dance and our first Finalist in Organ since 1993.

Some dates to rememer each year:
Registrations begin March 1st each year.
Early registration deadline for juniors (with discounts): June 1st
Final, registration deadline for seniors: October 1st
Audition/Portfolio submission deadline: November 1st

And to close, please allow me to preach to the choir and encourage everyone to buy tickets to "Rent" the movie to show Hollywood that film musicals can be profitable ventures. Anthony Rapp was a Theater panelist for five consecutive years.

My contact information is on our website: www.NFAA.ARTSawards.org

Wow, are we here at CC an influential bunch or what? Thank you Mr. Schram for posting on our humble forum, it is nice to hear from someone "in the know", instead of us second guessing everything. I will take you up on your offer of more information thru your email, expecially where taping is involved, in the hopes that our dance company has better luck in the future!

Since finalist and merit letters were mailed out almost a week ago, should those who didn't receive a letter anticipate bad news?

possibly ... but would not call it "bad news"...if one gave the best effort!
Some previous post(s) mentioned applicant(s) who had won locally/nationally/internationally who did not win an ARTS award (this year?)
1. no one can win in evey attempt.
2. it's very difficult to win even once/a few times, in reputatable/high quality contests.
3. Unlike math/science where experiments/results can be repeated & proved
in that sense,
arts competitions, well, have subjectivity in judging which can't be avoided.

Commendations to all for the significant effort and dedications required to enter ARTS & other top notch contests!!

The NFAA announced the Coca-Cola Distinguished Schools in the Arts. Two of the five are in Texas:

Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, DALLAS

The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, HOUSTON

Wonderful pictures and articles in the Winter NFAA magazine.

Proud Texan,

Did anyone get a nomination for Who's Who in American Colleges? I found it unusual that it mentioned my D was a Narts candidate, so I'm wondering if she got on some kind of computer database from them. From what I've researched, these awards, just as NHS & USAA which she's also been "nominated" for, are somewhat subjective although there is scholarship monies involved for some candidates. Just curious if anyone else received it and wondering if she would look like a rube if she sent a postcard about it to the colleges on her list? Anybody know anything about that?

My student who got an NFAA Honorable Mention in MT also received a Who's Who letter that mentioned her NFAA award - so maybe there is a common database...

same here

xxx,Mary Anna

D got Who's Who last year & last week, though did not look in detail (just threw out).
Seemed to have impression/vague knowledge that this is not a "real" or worthwhile "honor"??
Though also recall some who said they got legit scholarship awards from it ...

I threw it out as well. This is a thing to get you to buy a book.

That's what I thought. Well, I put it on her resume anyway, in case anyone cares. Do you think it would look dumb to send a postcard to update her resume at the schools she's applied to? I'm specifically thinking about the one she is deferred from.
