I’m applying for a tier 1 Ivy next year. I’ve been a pianist for a very long time and am going to submit an arts supplement. I want to submit Chopin’s “Andante Spinato et Grand Polonaise Brilliante” which is one of Chopin’s most beautiful works to me.
Anyway, it is very long. Is it appropriate to condense the piece or skip the first movement? I’m sending in a recording.
I can’t comment on your question but I will say:
–There is no such thing as a tier 1 Ivy – they are all top tier universities.
–I’d suggest that you submit a music supplement only if it your playing is at a very high (almost conservatory level) caliber.
–If it is not clear from the website I would contact each school and ask if music supplements are accepted and if the answer is yes in what format and length should the supplement be.
