Is it better for an asian male to take Drama for 4 years and have 18/19 AP courses or to not take drama and have 21 AP courses?

first of all, it’s really unrealistic to take 19 AP courses. most school’s don’t even offer that many ap’s. second, drama is only to your advantage if you are really good at it b/c it could lower your gpa. plus, ap courses only prove that you’re good at academics. for a successful app you need to have some extra curriculars too. if you’re targeting the top 10, over 10,000 of the 25,000 that apply are academically qualified, all in the top of their class, have above a 2200 on the sat, and 4’s and 5’s on all ap’s. you need something to differentiate yourself from that and one class won’t do it

In my school it is very realistic. Yes, I’m really good at it and not many people get bad grades in the classes. I’ve got plenty of extracurriculars, I’m in over 15 clubs, and I’m going to be an eagle scout soon too.

So you’re saying that taking drama would differentiate me from the others?
What do you mean by “one class won’t do it” ?

Alright, well thanks so much for the advice :)

well if its realistic, then you can try. but remember, the exams are hard and i’m not sure about your classes’ difficulty, but trying to keep straight a’s in all these classes is tough. also, its better if you focus on a few clubs than many. colleges want to see consistency, dedication, and quality. taking drama, actually, wouldn’t really affect your admissions since you are already good at it. it would just lower your gpa

Several people have taken 19+ …hmm… I was thinking that colleges, particularly Ivies, would see a dedication in not only academics but also in Drama all 4 years. Assuming that my grades are all A’s and my extracurriculars are all good, and my AP scores are all 5’s with a few 4’s, and my SAT’s are pretty decent, would it be better to take drama for 4 years with 18AP’s or to not take drama at all and have 21AP’s and a higher class rank?

If you want to show dedication in drama, why not act in school and community plays? I know a girl who even founded her own theater company…

It’s good if you want to pursue a lot of ECs, but trust me, colleges can see right through you if you’re doing ECs for the pure sake of doing ECs. If you don’t want to be passionate about drama, do everyone there a favor and stick to your APs.
