I recently applied to 7 of the Ivy League Schools. I study in Panama, but my school follows the Cambridge International Examinatiosn Curriculum. Basically, they offer AS Levels exams, but since the school is in Panama, we also need to fulfill the Panamanian curriculum.
Instead of taking 7 classes like normal British students do, we take 13 classes, which does not allow us to do any A Level classes. I have read that you need 3 A Levels for an Ivy League school (generally). For my case, I took 5 AS levels and 1 A level in order to fulfill the requirements for the AICE diploma. So in conclusion, it is impossible to do more than one A level in my school due to the fact that I take 13 classes. I have straight As in all my classes and I graduated as valedictorian, but I dont know if this will mess my application.
No, the school profile does not say this. And yes, what was reported by my counselor were my As results from my junior year, which were A in literature, A in spanish, C in english. It did not specify that I took AS general paper, biology, global perspectives and A level literature. What should I do? Should I email colleges with the explanation or just hope for the best? I know my case is very unusual
There are no specific requirements for A levels that I know of for any of the elite schools, they should know any specific issues for each country/high school and adjust admissions accordingly.
You will only be judged based on what is possible and what is reported.
Your transcript from your school should show all your grades, both classroom and testing. If your transcript does not show everything that you took you need to go back to your GC and have them send all your grades. You actually needed to do this BEFORE the deadline, not after, but better late than never.
Imo, a C in English at AS level is going to hurt you a lot, but I am not an AO.
So, when applying to Ivy League and other top schools, do they evaluate the transcripts and the courses you took, or the grades you got in A and As levels results. I am asking because I am a panamanian student with a hybrid curriculum. I take 10 AICE classes and 3 other extra classes, which makes it impossible to do a levels, but just As.
I took
As level english
As level spanish
As level general paper
As level biology
As level global perspectives
A level literature
The system is not properly explained in the school profile, and all that was sent were the four AS level results from last year as well as a not that said “pending results”. Should I email each college specifying how the curriculum works and that I didnt get to take 3 or 4 a levels because the school doesnt offer them, or do you think they will just focus on the transcript and the courses I took? Please help, I am about to get a pannick attack…
