Regardless of stats, do they give merit awards (specifically the President’s Scholars Program award) to students accepted ED? I feel like they would tend to give those to students who didn’t know for sure they were going to Mudd in order to sway them over. I’m going to apply for the scholarship regardless, I’m just wondering if I have any realistic chance.
You should ask admissions. I would think that you are right that it isn’t likely for an ED student, but I am curious how they would answer this question.
Why would they need the bait if they already have the fish? :-).
This is from the website under the PSP section.
“Early decision candidates are required to commit to Harvey Mudd College and withdraw, in writing, their applications to other colleges by Jan. 15 (or March 15 in the case of Early Decision II). Because President’s Scholars are not notified of their selection until mid to late April, candidates whose commitment to Harvey Mudd is dependent upon winning the President’s Scholars Award should apply via Regular Decision.”
@whynotnow - That doesn’t exclude the possibility of getting the scholarship. It just says you shouldn’t apply ED if you are counting on the scholarship as the only way you will attend.
My guess, like the others, is that they are less likely to give a scholarship to an ED student as an ED student doesn’t need the extra incentive. But I’d be curious what they say about this too.
There was a thread out here last week (not Mudd specific) where some posters insisted that at least some colleges say they award merit equally to RD and ED students. I don’t really buy it, and have no reason to believe Mudd would use their limited merit aid that way.
@ClaremontMom oh I guess you’re right that it could be read that way. I do agree with you and @intparent that it doesn’t seem they would need to offer it to an ED student.
I do know of some people who got the Harvey S. Mudd Merit Award after applying EDI or EDII. It might be less likely to get merit aid applying ED, but it’s certainly not impossible.
