Apparently this class is really easy. To those who have taken it, would you recommended doing the weekly community service instead of the 10 page research paper?

I wanna know too!!!
I’m signed up for that class right now but the workload kinda scares me.
As for the community service project, I did OASES last year just for fun and met a lot of people who were doing it for a class. But I’m not sure if I should do it again since it was pretty time-consuming. And some of the people there even regretted not doing the research paper.

I don’t think the workload should be that bad. True, there is a lot of reading, but since most of the class scores so high, just skimming or reading it quickly should be fine.

The research paper does seem more appealing…if you pace it over time of course

hmmm this class seems to have a disconnect between the amount of (perceived) work and what I’ve heard/read about it being easy.

“Easy” could mean different things.

It could mean easy in terms of course content, or it could mean easy in terms of workload.

For example, many courses with labs, computer programming, or term projects may be easy in terms of course content, but consume a lot of time. Other courses may be difficult in terms of course content, but not take as much time.

^^i’m not sure what you’re point is. this course is said to be conceptually easy and the work load is supposed to be light. also, there is no lab component.

I took this class whilst at Cal. There is a lot of reading, but it isn’t particularly dense. Nor do you have remember details- just know the basics and big picture from each reading.

I hear/read that you don’t have to do any of the readings to do well. I also hear that most people stop going to lecture after a while.

Can this class be that easy?

there has to be some work involved! reading isn’t necessary and lecture isn’t necessary. So what is necessary?

being alive is what you need for this class. or so I’ve heard.

Easy in my opinion either means:
- Light workload (not too much time studying/doing hw)
- Easy grading (giving a lot of A’s)

Anyone know if ASAMST 20A is easy too?

it was easy in terms of grading. lots of work to do though.

i’m sure if you skim most of it/don’t even read some articles you’ll be fine.
