Asian in NJ w/ 3.9 UW GPA

Currently a junior with a question. Do I have a chance with a 3.9 UW GPA? I'm an asian, so I guess 3.9 is pretty low. On the bright side, I have a high rank within my class of 600. Within top 15, maybe top 10. So, will it kill me? SAT is 2310, in case that makes a difference. Thanks.

No. I don't think straight A's will get you into any respectable school.

You're stats are more than fine. It'll come down on on whether or not you can write good essays and have interesting ECs.

you are a typical asian student so i am expecting you must have some extraordinary extra curricular activity your numbers are pretty qualified, but i think all those who are accepted are in that range

well that's a load off my shoulders...I guess. I was feeling intimidated scrolling through all the 4.00s on the RD/ED threads, which is why I posted in the first place. I'm sorry if it seems obnoxious or arrogant of me to do that, I'm just genuinely concerned. My stats are ok, nothing special or anything, I'll do a stats post soon maybe...Thanks for the comments.

Regardless of competition results, I’m submitting an abstract and a prof supplemental rec.

-Various other competitions w/ unfortunate results .

Math:

-NHS 11th Grade.
-We’ll see about AP Scholar stuff…

This got way too long. My bad. Ok, so what are my chances now?

Edit: Forgot to mention I have a slight legacy. Great uncle attended. Prolly too distant anyway.

.............

one thing they forget to teach kids these days is that modesty is good unless it makes you sound like a douche who is trying to put others down through ur modesty. The only intent of this thread is for the OP to stroke her massive ego by trying to be modest so people would praise her even more.....makes me sick.

"The only intent of this thread is for the OP to stroke her massiver ego by trying to be modest so people would praise her even more"

I don't know what to be more offended by, your labeling me as female or your misinterpretation of my intent. I'm just another HS kid looking for chances (something that is done on a regular basis on this site). Aside from that, I already apologized for seeming like some kind of egotistical b-stard. There is a difference between being egotistical and feeling anxious. You need to cool your jets buddy and stop jumping to conclusions.

It's all in the essay.
Be likeable. Be interesting. Make the reader want to get to know you better.

I thought Columbia doesnt care about the essay as they only want a really short one.

ha i was right, i told you this kid would be a typical asian with extraordinary extracurricular activities! i could have guessed that just by reading "ASIAN" i know my fellow brothers too well!

the "why columbia" question does have a very short wordcount limit. the personal statement, though, is standard essay length.

But both must be dank.

You can go over the limit ( I did) but I wouldn't push more than 100 words extra. Remember, your writing should be like a skirt: Long enough to cover everything important but short enough to still be interesting.

I like skirts that barely cover anything at all.

Junelay: Yeah...well, at least my name's not Truazn or AznN3rd...

hey don't take it with grain of salt, i just happen to think it was kind of glaring, other than that looks like you can think of columbia as your safety

lol... safety? I don't know what star you're from, but none of the top colleges are safeties. It's not predictable and I've seen applicants with better credentials who didn't make it into CU.

just a bit of encouragement you know, i recommend jhu if you are going into pre-med btw

Seriously... if ur friggin on CC and posting things ...
ur most likely an over achiever and should not be worrying
much.

Asian + 3.9 UW = low? lol

Give me a break.

I have 3.66 GPA, 2000 SAT, BIo 710 Chem 700 Math 800
and got into Columbia. (btw im asian)

Make your application interesting and DEFINITLY go
say hi to your regional administrator if he/she ever comes
around. It helps ALOT.

Gluck. Next year haha.

"Essays: I'm a strong and confident writer and have had some **powerful **experiences that **reveal a lot about my character **that I plan to write about."

hahah i already love the way you write. =P
